Ok, so the main circuit breaker in my apartment is a bit nutty. It throws itself at completely stupid times, like when I plug the RCA cables from my 360 into my tv (even with both units turned off), sometimes it will pop the circuit breaker sometimes not (but when it does, any further attempts will pop it again for a while, even if I unplug both of them, insert the RCA's then plug them in... but after a couple of days, it will let me). As annoying as that is, it was at least occasional, and once it was working, there were no problems.
Yesterday it got REALLY annoying though. I got a new computer, and any attemps to have both it and my power converter plugged in at the same pops my breaker. I might understand if I was in some place with really old wiring that wasn't really meant to handle decent loads, but this is in a fairly new officetell. The units don't even have to be turned on either. If I plug the computer in (leaving it turned off), and then plug the power converter in, as soon as I plug anything at all into the converter, the breaker kicks. This is with everything in the apartment turned off and unplugged (where possible). Plugging things into different outlets doesn't help either. The only way I can use the computer is to have it plugged into my power converter instead of into the wall (or to not use my power converter, which is also less than optimal).
Any ideas? |

Hi Splok.
You should have three rings in your officetel, each one rated at 20amps. By flicking them on and off and through the process of elimination, you should be able to work out which outlets are on which ring (usually the kitchen and bathroom are on seperate rings). You could then try plugging the computer and power convertor into seperate outlets, on different rings. You may have a problem with one of the rings. New officetel doesn't necessarily mean good wiring!
Of course, the problem may also be with the wiring in the pc or power convertor. Try taking them to work or somewhere else, and plugging them in there.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't think I can remedy it by using difernt plugins though. I tried every plugin that would be practical to use, and it's not a individual breaker that trips, its the main one. Also, If it was just a question of pulling to much current, at least I would understand that, but nothing even has to be turned on for it to flip.
The computer wiring shouldn't really be the issue since there was some similar crazniess before I got it. I wouldn't think it would specifically be the converter since the previous craziness didn't seem related to the converter at all, but it was hooked up at the time. |
