The job I've accepted in Korea will only take up 6 hours of my day in the afternoon. So, I'm thinking about finding a second job to work in the mornings. However, I am concerned about the legality of it. Will there be a problem working for a second school with my visa? Also, my contract says I can be terminated if they catch me giving private lessons. It is unclear if they mean private lessons to the students associated with the school, or any lessons outside of the school. Your input is appreciated!

This is highly regulated by law.

If your contract says no outside work, that is exactly what it means. You can ask your boss for a change, but it isn't likely he/she will give that permission.

It is possible to work at a second place with the permission of your boss and Immigration. You will have to file forms with them and pay a fee.

Doing privates does mean teaching illegally for people on an E-2 visa.

You can get a second job but there are some hoops to jump through. There's a list of them here.

As for your second question, they are talking about any kind of private lesson. One of the reasons they don't want you doing this is because privates are illegal and if immi catches you, you may be deported. If that happens your school will suddenly find itself without a teacher and they don't want that for obvious reasons..

You work 6 hours or you teach 6 hours in the afternoon? If your contract states that you have 6 hours of teaching, there's a good chance your school/hagwon will require you to be there a few extra hours everyday for "prep" time.

And AM privates? Unless you're teaching desperate housewives, which isn't all that bad, actually Twisted Evil , you'll be hard pressed to find good gigs.

It's possible to teach adult classes for companies early in the morning, if you can wake up at 5. But legal, I highly doubt it.
