| I speak zero Korean, but I need a decent phone - prolly a Motorola RAZR. Anyone know a kiosk in Yongsan where I can get a monthly plan and they speak English. I am a stupid foreigner with way too much money and no Korean friends. |

| It's hard to give specific directions, but I've found several that speak at least passable English. Try heading down "cellphone alley" (in the outside part) with a picture of the RAZR and ask, "Englishee?" to each one you pass. Those who can speak English will come right out, the others will either ignore you or turn away as if you're a leper. |

| Oh wait, forgot to mention, AFAIK it needs to be in a Korean's name to get a monthly plan. That's what I was told and, not really being interested, I've never tested the theory. |

scroll down... everything you need is in here...

You can get phones on 7 & 8 floors of the space 9 building (upstairs at yongsan station).
If you get a monthly plan phone from SK or KTF then you need your ARC, possibly your passport and a DEPOSIT of 200k-250k won PLUS the cost of the phone AND a 55k won hookup fee.
If you get a phone from LG you do NOT need to make a security deposit.
You DO need your ARC, PASSPORT, BANKBOOK for an account that has been open for more than 3 months, the cost of the phone and the 55k won hookup fee.
IF you get a card phone (read prepaid time cell phone here) from any of the 3 cell phone companies there is NO hookup fee and no deposit and no monthly fee. You simply buy the phone and buy time as you need it. Card phones are about 4x more expensive per minute of talk time than monthly ones. All you need is your passport and/or ARC.
If you want a phone shop (not in yongsan though) that is willing to assist a foreigner then the shop at Yeongdongpo-gu office (Purple or Green line) subway stop (out exit 3, walk straight ahead, cross the first light and it is the right hand one of the 2 phone shops on the corner. Ask for InSook. She can help you. She speaks English and is willing to assist a foreigner to get a phone with a monthly plan. This is 2 stops away from the Seoul Immigration office. |

Hook-up fees means I'm paying to connect or paying to get a quasi-illegal service.
Thanks for the info, was kinda impatient and the "search" function was being a pain. |

| If you want a monthly plan...or a card phone...take the subway(line 1) to Songtan station. Take taxi to front gate of Osan air base. Lots of english speaking phone stores there. I got nice 3G card phone with SK for $180. If you have problems..its nice to go back and ask them in english about it. |
