I saw the Blackhawks play the Oilers back in November in the United Center.
How did Edmonton get so good? Chicago ripped them apart that night and won 3-1 and looked the better team by a mile. Then Chicago did feck all for the rest of the season! |

In 1972 they joined the WHL as the New England Whalers, later changed to Hartford and played in that league until they along with Winnipeg, Quebec and Edmonton joined the nhl in 1979. In 1997 they relocated to the present site in Carolina.
I ask you this.
Is 34 plus years of professional hockey history being "picked out of thin air" as you so eloquently put it?
Your not the sharpest tool in the shed are you?
Furthermore, there are many roots and traditions in the organization. Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe played a huge role in the development of the franchise, one of the greatest players of all time. Along with Howe in the Hall of Fame are Dave Keon, Paul Coffey(briefly then Edmonton) and probable future hall of famers Ron Francis, Brendan Shannahan and Chris Pronger. Kevin Dineen and Pat Verbeek also had great careers with them but not likely Hall candidates. It seems to me you may be 1 or 2 beers shy of a six pack.
Dont fly off the handle and criticize peoples posts when you know next to nothing about them or the subject in question.

In effect, Im right and you are wrong.
1. There is no more Whalers just as there was no Hurricanes 34 years ago. I never recall Ron Francis in a Hurricanes uniform
2. So one fine day, out of the blue people who had zero to do with a team called the Hurricanes suddenly becomes Canes fans. Yeahh....sorry, dont buy it. Its like Juventus moving to Rome and suddenly people in Rome are asked to be true blue Juventus fans. Sorry, that would never fly.
3. Katrina killed a lot of people. Calling a team the Hurricanes makes light of all those people. |

I agree. But if such a function existed, who would remain to view his endless photos of people in front of advertisements? |

Actually i enjoy watching this guy (He should be called whinju for his incessant whining) make a fool out of himself day after day. He's so predictable. If there's a thread about hockey or any other sport that is predominant in Canada and/or the US then you can count on him to make ludicrous comments just to try and get a reaction. He reminds me of a guy I used to know when I was a kid. No one would pay any attention to him so he would make wild comments about whatever he thought would piss off people. Occasionally, someone would take offense, kick the crap out of him and then he would actually be happy that someone took time to recognize him. Same thing seems to happen here with Whinju. |

Why is that? Because I dislike hockey? 99% of the world feels the same way I do about this game. Im just vocal about it. And really, if a bunch of hockey and eggball fans didnt go on an offensive against the World Cup, we wouldnt be having this little spat. Why is it you boys can dish it out but cant take it? |

Well of course there was no pre-Penguins Ron Francis in a Hurricanes uniform because they were the Whalers.
Your self-righteous Soccer is better than anything ever forever and ever and ever is getting really annoying. |

Jinju,
Its not just about hockey, I find your responses to posts on most subjects to be inflamatory, negative and aggressive to the posters the majority of the time.
As for as 99 % of the world feeling the same way about the game as you do....hmmm...I disagree but thats ok. |

OK let's get the thread back on track and ignore the troll
I watched the game on stream tv and while I want the Oils to win, it is very evident the main difference between the teams is the power play. Carolina's is awesome -all 3 of their goals were on the pp(notwithstanding the OT winner was a shorthanded goal) If they can get that on track then I really think they have a chance. Let's hope it goes 7. It's against the odds but it would be great for the city of Edmonton. |

| I would be willing to bet that more Americans and Canadians care about the Stanley Cup than they do the World Cup, but that is just an assumption. |

Thanks for proving just how smart your are.
#1 has already been disproved.
#3 the team had the name before the hurricane. (tool)
My great, great grandfather was killed by a pirate. I find the Pittsburgh Pirates offensive. My cousin was mauled by a tiger. I find the Detroit Tigers offensive. In a freak accident, my mother was buried and killed by Maple Lea(ves), so I find that name offensive |

#1 was not disproven. The pre-penguins Ron Francis who was the franchise player of the Whalers never wore the Canes uniform. Just because he went there AFTER the canes were formed means very little.
#3 I do find pirates offensive. They attack ships and steal their treasure and then they hide it on some goddamn island away from civilization. Not to mention the fact that they make stupid maps where x marks the spot and expect you to find that treasure. If thats not offensive, I dont know what is. And whats with the 'har har har'ing anyway? Thats an offensive laugh. |
