I realize there are many posts on this, but I couldn't find the information I was looking for. I am trying to find a class that takes place in the late mornings, 2 or 3 times a week. Gangnam, Sinsa, or Coex would all be great locations for me.
I used to go to the Korean Language Academy in Gangnam on weekends, but that just won't work anymore. They do have a morning class during the week that I am considering, but it is 10 hours per week. I am worried that this might be a bit too much if I am working full-time as well. I think 6 hours per week at the most would be more manageable. Any information would be great. Thanks. |

Sorry, but could you tell me more about the one in Gangnam on weekends? |

Here is the link:
http://seoul-kla.com/engl/index.php
It is 3 hours every Saturday. They have a morning and afternoon class to choose from. It's 120,000 won per month. It was a great class. Good teacher and a good mix of Japanese, Chinese and North American students. However, I am out of town a lot on the weekends, so I miss to many classes. |

THANK YOU. I have been looking for something like this on weekends for awhile (as I live in a small city about 40 minutes out of Seoul)
I'm sorry I can't help you out |

Well, I can't help the OP answer his question but since the thread title is so open-ended, I'll recommend Korean YMCA Foreigner Course.
I took the 15-week course at the YMCA Daegu on Saturdays last Oct-Dec.(?) and now that I'm in Seoul in Jeong-no, I look be looking into the course their. At 80,000 won the Daegu course was reasonable. The Seoul course seems to have more class offerings. I'm not sure if their are any YMCA's in Kangnam. |

YBM on Jongno has Korean classes at many different times of the day. When I took classes there 2 years ago it cost W200,000 a month for 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. I think they did have 3 day a week classes, but in the evening. I don't know what they have available now.
I was happy with the classes when I took them, but according to other people who have studied there, quality varies quite a bit depending on who the teacher is.
If you're looking for weekend classes, Hangeul Kongbubang has almost free (W1000 per lesson) classes on Saturday with very dedicated volunteer teachers. |

Definitely! I took 2 courses there. The first teacher was excellent, but the second would do things like this:
A) Write up a 6 line dialog on the board.
B) Have us copy it down.
C) Erase 2 words in the dialog.
D) Introduce 10 sets of variables that could go in the blanks.
E) Instruct us to write out the whole dialog TEN MORE TIMES using each of the variables!
F) Leave the room for 20 minutes.
G) Return and individually correct each student's paper while the rest sit idle until the clock runs out.
There's a new semester of free Korean classes starting this Saturday at Onnuri church in Seobinggo. Starts at 11:00. All levels available. Very friendly atmosphere. All welcome. |

That's very interesting, just down the road from me: I had a look at their website but there's nothing that I could find about the lessons. |

Damn, what a crappy teacher! I only had one teacher there, a woman in her 40s or older. While she did have us do some choral repetition and grammar worksheets, which are never fun (although grammar work is definitely necessary if you're serious about the language), I was very impressed with the variety of activities we did. We did free talking exercises, watched news clips and dramas and did listening comp activities, discussions, and played games based on them, did reading exercises with literature and newspaper clippings, played vocab games, and lots of other things. I got the impression that she was as unimpressed with YBM textbooks as I was as we never spent more than 10 minutes per 2 hour class using them. As we typically did 3-5 different types of activities per class, it was never boring. She also never seemed to have a problem with us going off on a tangent if one of the students started talking about something. That was only one teacher, and I have heard stories of much worse, so YMMV.
The only reason I didn't stay there longer was that my work schedule interfered, and I was never able to get a class anywhere near my level again that fit the evil split shifts of my adult haggie. |

This seems a little pricey. The YMCA course I took last year in Daegu was only 80,000 for 3 months downtown on Saturdays 11-1. I was happy with the quality of the education. The fact that course was offered between university semesters for 15-weeks was also another issue. The YMCA - Jeongno has weekday classes for an hour per day however I don't know the going rate. |

Sorry to be off the OP's topic again but I am also looking for a Korean class but in the late afternoons or evenings and preferably north of the Han.
Does anyone know anything about the Language Research Training Center located near the City Hall station?
Or another place that has classes during the week that anyone knows about would be great.
Thanks |

Wow! Thanks for the info. I had no idea there was something in my area. Are there a lot of other foreigners that go there? What about the quality of the instruction |

Onnuri church in Ichon-dong offers classes for 10,000 won per month plus the cost of books. It's a bit crowded at times, but they provide free munchies too. Classes meet on Saturday mornings. |

The classes at Onnuri - Seobingo are on summer break hiatus and the Bucheon crew decided to offer them starting this weekend. |
