Leno To Host Carlin, Coulter On Wednesday

LOS ANGELES - "Tonight" host Jay Leno might want to consider wearing referee stripes on Wednesday's show when Ann Coulter and George Carlin are his guests.



Coulter, the acid-tongued conservative with a new book out, and Carlin, the quick-witted, anti-establishment comedian who's in the voice cast for the new animated film "Cars," were booked at separate times for the NBC late-nighter, a spokeswoman said Monday.

But the duo's meeting could produce serious fireworks for "Tonight," which usually limits its political fodder to Leno's bipartisan monologue jokes.

Coulter, author of "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," has drawn fire for attacking the four New Jersey widows who pushed for an independent commission to investigate the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attacks in which their husbands died.

In her book, Coulter accuses the women of " ... reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis.
I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

An appearance by Coulter on another NBC series, "Today," led to a prickly exchange with host Matt Lauer over her comments on the widows.

Also scheduled for "Tonight" Wednesday is Scottish singer and songwriter KT Tunstall.

I actually feel embarrassed for Coulter. She might be enjoying her time in the spotlight now, but I don't think it's going to be for long. And when she goes down, it's going to be hard. Nobody is going to be there for her.

Coulter's musings on 9/11 widows is a new low. I can only wonder if she'd be spewing the same garbage about them if they were registered Republicans.

I saw the show.
Leno actually asked her, "So have you ever had sex with a liberal?" What kind of lame question is that?
Carlin's monologue was amazing. I'd have been tongue tripping all over the place. And he restrained himself well having to sit next to that biatch for 10 minutes.

I saw the show, too, and I agree that Carlin's monologue was impressive in its command of English catch-phrases and idioms, etc.

One of the annoying things about Coulter is that her equally obnoxious and phony conservative followers packed the audience and inappropriately cheered loudly whenever Leno made a reference to her in his opening monologue (throwing him off-rhythm and ruining a couple punch-lines...)

She looked and sounded more depraved and repulsive than usual, but she was careful to try to disarm any attack from the elderly - but still sharp - Carlin by flattering him two-or-three times, conceding that he was perhaps the "smartest liberal" ... There were really no on-camera exchanges between them...

How anyone can seriously buy her claim that all Democrats and liberals are "godless" while she and her goony Republican friends are God's gift to the world is hard to fathom...

For the record: Nothing worth calling an "exchange" happpened between Carlin and her.

I was surprised by Leno's questions for her. They were perhaps the most pointed questions I've seen Leno ask.
