This is about burgers.
Not really.
It's about current events.
Mad cow disease has no cure.
As such, no one can remove the connection beef has to current events.
Those who do would be anti-beefist.
My question is this:
Can I bring up beef anytime I want to on the CE forum, even if the beef I have is not related to any current event whatsoever?
If so, how about milkshakes?
Irish traditional music?
Benji: The Hunted?
Math?
Judo?
Smurfs?
The thing under my bed?
Snapdragons?
Oatmeal?
Or, is it really OK for people with an agenda to post something without any clear connection to current events to post as they see fit, especially since the same questions were already asked on another forum? |

You could always make another post about heaven. You could call it Cheesburgers in Paradise.
Good Post. You gave me a good laugh and made a decent enough point. |

Thanks.
I worship Happy Days.
Fonzi was a proud Italian, and ethnicity is inseparable from politics...
That's a subtle hint that you should prepare something great for the forthcoming tiramisu thread.
Big Audio Dessertimite: It's all connected.
Don't close your mind. |

Anyone committed to eating cheeseburgers is currently headed for hell...a big event in their lives ... |

Committed?
You mean forcing themselves to do something they rather wouldn't, like vegetarians and health nuts do?
Glad everyone in my family lives to be ninety eating thick ducklard spread on bread. |

Longevity in this life is irrelevant to the big picture. (The number of breaths that each of us has to experience in a particular body is already set by our previous life's karma ...)
Anyway, I think that seriously controversial topics like contentious religious issues and ideological and philosophical clashes (remember New Left "guru" Herbert Marcuse?...) that inform and shape various political movements and parties are most suitably discussed in "Current Events".
Occasionally, they can also pop up in the "Off-Topic" forum, but many of the regular posters there tend to be rowdier and less serious, and most threads and posts are for amusement value only... |

There's no cheeseburgers where I live, but I wanted a cheeseburger last night. That should count as a current event, I would think.

None here either. I make sure I satisfy the appetite for variety when travelling on the weekends. |

Where I come from, the beef industry definitely has a lobby in government.
As such I believe it "shapes and informs" my country's politics.
Does that give me the right to ask whether people are going to eat cheeseburgers tonight on the CURRENT EVENTS forum?
No.
That's NOT a current event.
But, does it give someone else the right to ask if people are going to heaven on the CURRENT EVENTS forum?
No.
That's also NOT a current event.
Moreover, such questions have already been on the off-topic forum WHERE THEY BELONG.
I've seen some pretty serious topics (including racism. sexism, rape, suicide, and RELIGION) discussed on that forum.
How your religious discussions were received there doesn't concern me,but it is where they belong unless they're related to a current event.
I don't think what I'm saying is unreasonable. |

I don't think that it's a question of reasonableness so much as it is of practicality.
I formerly took about the same position as you as to "Off-Topic" being the best forum for religion threads unless directly relating to a current event, but the "Off-Topic" forum tends to get too crowded with threads while "Current Events" is much less so. Are you sure that you're not just trying to keep your "neighborhood" segregated from those niggardly religious threads? ("Fiveeagles" posts a thread and "there goes the neighborhood! ) (Restricted covenant?... )
Actually, you seemingly choose to ignore the logic that if threads relating to politics/political ideology per se belong in this forum then why not threads based on popular or controversial religious ideas? |
