I assume you basically hate the English then, as none of your arguements have focused on anything other than putting down English players.

Then you haven't been listening.

My arguments center around hypocrisy, poor play, a lack of personality, greed, arrogance, etc.

I don't have time for hate. I do disdain the English team, and for good reason. But then sports fans so rarely base recognition on relevant qualities. The experience usually relies on emotive qualities rather than reasonable qualities.

Namaste.

I think you will find the last two are found in every sportsman in the world that gets paid for their job.
Why would you base a hatred on lack of personality. Have you ever met these players? I doubt it.

When was the last time you saw greed or arrogance from Ronaldinho? Never. The man has less dirt than Mother Theresa, and does almost as much for disadvantaged children. There were regular free clinics for kids sponsored by Ronaldinho when I lived in Bara.

I don't need to meet the men to see they lack personality. They put it on display for everyone to see every time they step in front of the camera or grant an interview.

Every team has a few flakes. When the bulk of the team saturates with it, the ethical person steps away.

Namaste.

I also assume you have not heard about the work for charity that both Beckham and Rooney are constantly involved in.
Beckham has been praised by the church as he is a 'model father'. He spends hours and hours talking to young people and helping them.
Rooney, you forget, has grown up in the public eye. He's only 20. Remember what you were doing at 20 and then realise how much more Rooney does for other people.
One of my friends went to school with Peter Crouch. Try telling her that he has no personality.

We also shouldn't forget that when we last played the cheating Argies last November, we wiped them off the floor with the same teams.

Of course they do things in the community, but under what pretence? Publicity? Greed?

Sure celebrities can occasionally be altruistic. It'd be absurd to say that England players always seem arrogant.

When Beckham goes to one of these events and opens his mouth to expose his vapid intelligence, I can't help but laugh.

Crouch has personality, but not one I'd like to sit beside.

Rooney seems rather quiet and timid, and when he does try to talk about relevant issues, he shows the wearwithall of a high school drop-out. Probably not a bad bloke, but certainly not someone I'd want to share a conversation with.

But hey, support your team regardless of these qualities.

Namaste.

So they don't have great public speaking qualities, so what?
So most of them grew up in poor inner city estates, so what?
This is the same throughout the world. It happens because these kids join a club when they are 11. they're not academically gifted but who's to say they have no personality?
Their talent is with their feet, not their mouths, so what you're basically saying is irrelevant. It's not an English trait. It's a trait of footballers everywhere

Do you base how much of a personality everyone has based on academic performance?
Not sure that wins you many friends.

let it fly J, herpes is just on a higher intellectual level to us mere mortals.

we support international teams because they are the countries of our birth, or we feel some tie to them. stop romanticizing about the wonderful philanthropy (i've got a thesaurus too) of ronaldo and any other barrio kid. there are moral, immoral, good, bad, greedy, giving players for all teams.

sport is competition, played by humans with all their human frailities. sometimes they play fair, sometimes they don't. get over it, and quit the moralising and enjoy the game.

and for your information, ronaldhinho was a real playa at psg (thats paris st gemain) who was in and out of clubs as much as he was the team. so now you get your mother theresa playing for brazil?! give us all a break!

No, I base personality off personality. Cognitive competence forms an essential component of personality.

So clubbing makes one unethical? mmhmm. There is such a thing as ethical hedonism, grok?

I could never fall for that nationalistic trap.

You can't decide someone's personality if you have not met them. You oviously like to read the media to much and believe everything they tell you.

Well, it makes you less professional for a start. Always out on the pull doesn't remind me of Mother Teresa, does it?

Of course you can. Generalization forms a center-piece of intelligence. It would, however, be inappropriate to mistake those generalizations as universalizations, or as entirely accurate. I have done neither.

I believe nothing.

That probably makes me even more 'weird', in your estimation; a generalization I would gladly occupy.

"I believe nothing" is a self-refuting argument, I'm afraid, Hermes. If you believe that you believe nothing, then there is at least one thing that you believe. If you truly believe nothing, then you do not believe that you believe nothing. Either way, your statement isn't worth a lick.

On topic: Argentina are scary. Strangely enough, Serbia were my tip for the WC's dark horses in a "Greece in Euro 2004" sense - tough, defensive, effective. Deary me, my footy predictions get increasingly worse. I'm worried about the Argies because I'll win 300k if Brazil or the Czechs win the WC. Say something nice, folks. Tell me Brazil are gonna walk it....please.

Lucky you've got the Czechs too. They look as good as the Argentines in this tourney! Watch tonight's game in an hour and a half and see.
