| 19. Employer must be able to speak comprehensible english upon signing of this contract. If in the event the employer can not speak english, he/she must take english classes from primary teacher not less than 50,000 / hour. |

| 21. Where upon employee has given employer prior notice of illness the employer CAN NOT reply : "Ahh can you still come to work today?". If such a question is asked the employer by law cannot each Kimchi for 1 week, as stated in the labor board workers protection act , sect 10, p1. |

You fail(ed) to recognize one very important condition.
You have no leverage.
The pool Korean hakwons are pulling applicants from isn't finite. And is your resume that much more special than a resume of any member of this forum?
Do you speak multiple languages? I doubt it.
Can you dunk a basketball? Probably not.
Are you a published author? Highly doubtful.
Do you have any other degree besides your B.F.A.?
Do you have a perfect tan?
Are you highly affable?
Bottom line. Most of us came to Korea without a list of demands. Sure we bounced the contract back and forth changing clauses and asking questions. But nothing like this.
Negotiating terms requires diplomacy, not brute force.

p.s. or, you could just wait and apply for the position of prince of monaco when that post becomes vacant

22. Employer shall submit to a criminal record check of all directors and management as well as submit financial statements.
23. Employer and all Korean staff shall address me and all foreign staff at all times as "Sir".
Seriously, though, most of the OP's points are already law and are reasonable to a degree. However, it would be a very desperate hogwan who ever hired the OP.
To the OP: Koreans don't believe in following contracts to the letter (well, unless they feel it's to their advantage somehow).
A thorough reference check from former and current staff is more important than a detailed contract that most Koreans couldn't understand anyway. |

28. Employer shall provide me with tea and crumpets upon request.
29. In the event of a cute K-teacher being hired, employer must give me first dibs.
29a. "cute K-teacher" shall be defined as anything which casts a shadow.
30. Employer agrees to abide by my wish to teach only when I feel like it.
31. Employer must provide accomodations for hangovers.
32. Employer shall supply Charmin soft-ply paper tissues. |

| Yup. Stay in the States. Your OP reflects the fact that you already have enough apprehension to self justify a huge ol- chip on the shoulder if and when you do get here. Some of the things that you 'wish' for are indeed reasonable...from a N. American point of view. They are points, however, that, if brought up, would sour any employer relationships from the get-go in Korea. Personality goes a long way here, and tends to pick up from where the ink dries on a short and vague contract. You'll come in with your hand tipped. Seriously, don't bother. |
