Brief thread hijack:

| "I believe nothing" is a self-refuting argument, I'm afraid, Hermes. If you believe that you believe nothing, then there is at least one thing that you believe. If you truly believe nothing, then you do not believe that you believe nothing. Either way, your statement isn't worth a lick. |
Your semantics aside [all isness reduces to fallacy], a lack of belief cannot be reduced to belief any more than a lack of chair can be reduced to chair.
Model agnostics have written extensively on this popular misconception, so I feel no need to revisit it here.

| Lucky you've got the Czechs too. They look as good as the Argentines in this tourney! Watch tonight's game in an hour and a half and see. |
Poor game tonight. Ghana played well, granted - and there were some questionable calls - but Czech were well off their game. If they'd played that poorly against the US, the score probably wouldn't have been as demeaning.

I think Ghana thoroughly deserved the win today. African teams bring so much to the World Cup, with their unique style of play and amazing supporters.
The Czechs were poor, and without Koller upfront, don't look a threat to score. They may well not qualify from the group now. |

| Glad and African team got a win. Ivory Coast did very well against the Netherlands, only to lose. |

Has Ghana's win shown us how poor the US team was?
I know Bruce Arena definately didn't pick the best players available for his squad, he must be a little daft.
Suppose we'll see when they play each other next. |

| well the USA is playing a hell of a lot better against italy than in the czech match. Arena wised up a bit. |

Of course you can. Generalization forms a center-piece of intelligence. It would, however, be inappropriate to mistake those generalizations as universalizations, or as entirely accurate. I have done neither. |
Well I haven't met you but I reckon you're a geek.

Ahh, more ad hominem. How persistent it arises in so many contexts, always there to illuminate a lack of substance.

Okay. I've already called it. What u guys think of the Ecuador vs. England matchup. I felt England didn't play up to their potential in the first two matches. Ecuador was a mini-Argentina in the games they won.
Also, Klose is a machine this year. He could get the golden boot this year. |

Ecuador rested key players last night, so they may feel confident against England.
Meanwhile, England still hasn't performed well. I think it'll turn out to be a fine match. I wouldn't look for Ecuador to concede as readily as they did against Germany. They'll put up more of a fight.
