http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006270601,00.html

I just found myself laughing so much at this story, as much because of The Sun's delivery as anything, but also with disbelief about what goes on in some families. Blimey. (And I'm not laughing at the baby's crisis - I'm sure she'll be fine. The Sun's no doubt playing that bit of drama up.)

I have to say I'm sorry for the poor young lass in one sense - but in another, it must be nice in some ways to be so close in age to your progeny. You'd get to see yer grandkiddies much sooner, and you'd get to acompany your child through much of their life, and maybe your grandkids too if yer kids also sprogged at 12! Laughing

It brought to mind that Fairy Dishwashing Liquid joke:

Mum, your hands look so smooth and so young.
That's because I'm only 12 years old dear.

She'd be the same age as my grade one middle school students. They're too young to take care of themselves, much less a baby. I hope this kid gets adopted.

what irresponsible journalism

the tone of the article is such that it's almost surprising at the end when it's stated that a 15-year-old boy is being charged with sexual assault ("rape")

Cannabis fueled romp? Are they kidding? The only thing I can do on Cannibas is use the toaster oven and even that is usually skipped in favour of calling the Lebanese pizza guys down the street. Say what you want about Arabs and Muslims, but Mohammed makes a mean pizza and calzone when we are stoned!

That's part of why I was laughing. A kind of bitter shake-your-head, roll-your-eyes and 'trust-The-Sun-to-spin-it-like-that' laugh.

To me it's certainly a form of rape, an 11 year old girl is not in a state to consent. But a 15 (14 at the time?) year old boy is still a child himself. Who the hell was supervising them...obviously no-one.

Still, what's done is done, and I hope the (34 yr old) mother is still reasonably responsible enough that her girl can keep her baby safely. Obviously social services should be keeping a good eye on the 3 of them though.

This is sickening.

I really do hope social services in Scotland is going to take the baby and put her in foster care/up for adoption.

I know that a baby needs her mother (and I know!) but what is the use if the mother is immature and naive?!

I do hope the baby pulls through, though.

Yes, it would just be a non-stop rollercoaster of youth courts and probation services, with the honest responsible tax payer picking up the bill.

Motherhood might make some folks grow up in a hurry. iIonce worked with a girl (17) who gave birth at 12. Saw a picture, a little kid with a little kid. She learned to be a mom.

This girl and her child will be poster children for the welfare system. The mother of the girl should be locked up for allowing her kid to 1. smoke, 2. drink, and 3. have sex at that tender age. There's no excuse for this kind of behavior at her age Crying or Very sad I too hope the baby is adopted out to not find out what a f#$k up her mother is!!!

Amen to that. We disagree on a lot of things, but I was wondering when the voice of reason was going to pipe up in favour of the real victim(s) in this sordid tale, the taxpayers of Britain.
