6-5 Korea. In ot.

Whoops! Got hockey on the brain.

How about 1-0 on an own goal. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Anyone who thinks France has a chance against Korea is just plain crazy.

Korea will win 2-0.

Those European cheeseburger asses don't have a chance.

It'll be a draw. France is a talented team but they can't seem to score a goal to save their lives.

Seems to be semi-upset weekend...

Ghana beats the Czeks and the US manages to draw with Italy....who knows then.

I just hope the ref in the KOR-FRA game is not as horrid as the one who was working the US-ITA game!

For crying out loud, I'll say it again ... the refereeing was not horrid during the USA v Italy game.

In another thread, I wrote:

The referee is getting a lot of stick on this site which is unwarranted. The first sending off was obvious, and De Rossi should be looking at a three or four match ban. The second sending off was acceptable. A two-footed, studs-up challenge leaves the referee with little option. The last sending off was also not completely from left field either. Again, two fairly undisciplined challenges. The US goal disallowed late second half was offside. No mistake there.

So what's the problem?

The biggest moaning seems to ba about the second yellow on Pope, but for Christ's sake, all the players must have known by that point the referee was throwing cards around like confetti. A lunging, clumsy challenge at the edge of the box is always going to be risky, but coming in from the side and taking the Italian player completely out was just plain dumb.

Pope got sent off. He was playing with fire with a careless challenge and got burned. The end.

There's a heck of a lot of pressure on the Frogs to win and win convincingly. On Korea, there's no pressure at all. They don't have to win. Korea should shut up shop early doors and keep it 0-0 as long as poss and try and steal a goal. If France get an early goal it could be 3 or 4-0. I voted a France win, but it's not what I want.

I am going to bed in 10 minutes.

Speaking of which--my students have been texting me all day asking if I am going to Seongnam Stadium again to watch the match. Apparently it will be open at 4AM.

Football feverliscious.

Funny. I wish more refs were as insistent as he was. All the cards he gave have video evidence to support. He made the right calls. Good for him. His job entails ensuring that the rules get observed and that players don't endanger each other with reckless play. He did exactly that.

He has been roundly praised in a number of WC blogs. The folks who disagree seem to unilaterally have a substantial agenda.

Namaste.

At half-time it's France 1-0. The Koreans couldn't get the ball up field the few times they managed to get possession. I'm ironing shirts so as not to waste time.

France 1 Korea 1. What's up with Korea getting its goals at the last minute? If they play against Argentina they'll be slaughtered.
