Lot's of standing around, while walking a round.

The sports of rugby and football american or canadian (I happen to like the Canadian version as its more exciting) are both great sports with great athletes.
I played both Canadian football and rugby while residing in Canada. I loved playing both of them.
I think comparing the two sports is riduculous cause they are two seperate sports. One is a flowing game and one stops and starts, that doesn't mean one is better than the other, just different.
I will although say this, I suffered more injuries in three seasons of local rugby while I played for the Wanderers in Winnipeg than I did playing 7 years of football in Ontario and Manitoba
I will also say that lining up for a play in football is alot more exciting and demands a diffferent kind of effort (than rugby) from all players on the field to make that particular play successful.
If you have not played both sports in competition I think you should reserve judgement and either try both or not compare the two. |

I was never saying that Rugby was better than American football (although that is my opinion!).
I was defending that fact that certain people seemed to think rugby was a sport where you don't get hit. |

I just want to win the world cup so we can hold it over the heads of you freaking limeys. After all, it's your national sport. But how many cups have you won? One? I think that's it.
Let's face it. Except for Germany, most European teams have no chance. The Krauts are the only ones who can match up with the South Americans.
Don't get all full of yourself, Englishman. You have about the same chance as America to win the cup. It's going to Brazil. And if it doesn't go to Brazil, it's going to the Krauts.
You know it, and I know it.
At least I have real football, baseball, and basketball to fall back on.
What do you have? Cricket and a bottle of Bells.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it. |

Live in England.
Don't think I've ever watched darts.
Any game where you can put on weight doing it, is not a sport, e.g. darts, pool, poker |

| There are huge hits in rugby. Sure, the rule is you cannot spear tackle, you have to have your arms out. The fact remains, that a in a typical rugby tackle the first part of the tacklers body to contact the tackled player is the shoulder. So grid iron players are bigger, I'd say that's made up for by the padding. Also, how far are the tacklers running from before they make the hit? In rugby they can run at from as far back as they like. The other thing is, since in rugby you only tackle the ball carrier he will almost always be going forward full tilt when you hit him, not to mention the fact that he uses at least one arm for the ball, sometimes two, so he's less able to defend himself. He's not standing there ready to take the hit, he's moving and has one arm to fend you off at most. Then there is the fact that the classic time to be tackled is a split second after you've just recieved the ball in a typical backline move. You're running forward at full pace, you are about to recieve a pass, you have to look at the ball as it comes to you ( but not slow down ) or you'll drop it, and the moment the ball is in your hands you get hit by a guy who has had time to line you up, and run at you, you are both moving forward at full pace, but he is look at you and you are looking sideways to recieve the ball. Bam...that's a big hit in anyone's language... |

rugby:
i once hit a guy so hard in college i gave myself a concussion, although i didn't realize it until later when everything turned green.
in high school, some guy's dad was taping us from some bleachers at midfield, and i hit a guy on the kickoff around the 22... sounded like a steak being thrown against a stainless steel wall on his shitty little camcorder.
i've leveled 280 pound guys running full steam head on.
you wake up every sunday with a line of steel spike tracks running up your body.
most of the damage comes from the partying afterwards, though. |

Look at the line up.
QB: Drew Brees
WR: Joe Horn Dante Stallworth
RB: Duece McCallister Reggie Bush
Tough not to score with that bunch. But if any team can mess up a good situation, it is definitely the Saints. |

I'taewonguy is on again, eh.
The Yanks won every Gold in the sport of basketball until an extremely controversial loss to Soviet Union in, like, 1974 or somthing. We were the best team at nearly every international playdown until four years ago when we shite bed.
As for America's Cup, Marblehead, Beverly Farms, and other North Shore, Massachusetts yachting sides did alright in the America's Cup. No need to worry there, Mate.
Losing in the World Cup of Baseball was no reason to worry, I'taewonguy: The Yanks fielded their, likely, 'G' Team. Come on, it is not a big deal to lose with a so-called team that would have had a difficult time against one of the better Division One University teams.
You do not know what you are typing about, Mate.
