The factors are significant.

I don't know if I can drink a bottle of Chivas.

By comparison, I know I can't drink a bottle of Bacardi 151.

All kinds of trouble starts way before I'm even close to done.

So, I stick to beer.

I know where I'm at.

That said, I've never loved the taste of beer.

If the world drank hard cider, I might drink enough to leave me in a coma.

Meanwhile, how much can you smoke?

I can drink a bottle of Chivas Regal in a sitting. Am I drunk? Of course. But I can still make it up the stairs!

How 'bout you?

We figured that you'd write exactly those words.

Come for a drink with me on The Hill, Mate. We'd have a good hoot.

I drank a bottle of Chivas Regal a couple of times before giving up on it. Not even a buzz. I think maybe I was drinking too much in those days.. a bottle of vodka a day? Kind of a lot. What can I say, I had the small town blues.

But when it comes to Jack Daniels, well.. two weeks ago I had about, oh, 8 or 10 shots of JD, a few beers and a few shots of soju and I was way too drunk. I think Flotsam and Zyzyfer remember how well that night ended.

I didn't have nearly as much as you (apparently), and I got in a lot more trouble. I still look nervously around every corner before I dart between buildings in the mean streets of Hongdae, lest I get plowed down by that incensed gang.

I think the real question isn't how much you can drink, but more do you know when to stop, or at least slow down?

...I usually don't. Confused (I'm practicing, though.)

What are you guys talking about? What happened after I came back to the sam-gyeop-sal place and we met all those promo models and racing girls that go to Ewha during the day but like to party it up at night? I mean, we went to the tops-optional noraebang, the girls treated us to that high class super secret underground pojang macha with all the vintage wine and Boddingtons on tap(dudes, I have been back there twice now--the water is ALWAYS good there Wink ), and then each of us left with a girl on either arm(ok, Z had three, the charming bastard).

Don't you remember?

I can take down three bottles of soju with no problems, four puts me damn close or into the blackout zone.

If I'm with Koreans, I pretend to be bombed after a bottle and a half. I've seen what happens when these guys get too drunk. They will try to out-drink me, they will fail and begin to get belligerant and potentially violent.

I'm surprised so few answers are in 'soju bottles.'
I usually say one bottle is good, two is better, three is getting to be too much.
Usually have a pint or few of beer sometime in a night out, too.

To answer the OP, by the time I'm reaching any limit, I'm way beyond counting.

Not into yangju, but enjoy an occasional tequila shot or two. Less frequently a margarita or pina colada.

Ah, reminds me of last year, drinking my alcoholic Director under the table, him trying to keep up, and him getting visibly annoyed that I drink once a week or so. He never once considered the simple fact that I out-sized him by 2X. Odd how Koreans sometimes reject the most obvious reasons for things (bodyweight in this case).

I really don't think it's weird that Koreans don't consider larger body mass in alcohol tolerance, but I do think it odd that they put such a competitive stress on drinking alcohol to beigin with. Alcohol should b a means to enjoy life, not an end to itself.

Think about it. All these puddles of vomit that you see around .. are those made by westerners? Didn't you stop drinking till you puke somewhere towards the middle of college?

I drink more than ever in Korea, never to the point of puking.

Fun. I like drinking with college kids. They seem like they feel it would be disrespectful to bow out before puking.
I went out with my newlywed wife's cousins. 4/6 of them puked.

Good job!
I once drank makkouli (sp?) with my ex and her brother and he tried to prove he could keep up and after seven bottles between the two of us (the ex didn't drink) it all came back up for up him. He turned a really interesting shade of purple, too.

One has a pleasing effect, but I always want more. I find it hard to stick to just one, which is why I don't touch the stuff when I've got work the next day.

2 is a good buzz.

3 bottles and I'm drunk but unlikely to puke. It might not be long before I hit the sack though. Depends how much sleep I've had. 3 is my standard "get pissed-up and that's that" amount probably.

4 f**ks me up.

Once, in my very early days here, I got severely, badly trashed off mostly soju but I've no idea how much I drank. Probably drank too quickly, as I often do. It's a bad habit but I can't help it. My personality is one of "if it's there, consume it". Drinking in the morning is the best. I never do it anymore because it's pathetic and smacks of rampant alcoholism, but it really is the best buzz off booze. You're not tired, so all the booze you drink is pure buzz and no drousiness....clearly opposed to drinking at night, 12 hours after you last slept, or after a day's work.
