The Swiss just beat the Togolese 2 - 0 and went to the top of the group with 4 points and a better goal differential.
Will they beat the Swiss? If they tie, will the Togolese have eliminated France? |

They pretty much need a win because France will most likely beat Togo by at least 2 goals.
I hope they can do it but it's not looking good. The Swiss have a solid defence and they keep the tempo up and stay dangerous throughout the match.
Of course the Swiss make sloppy passes and miss shots too so Korea can do it - but only if they stop being afraid of the goal. We'll see what happens on the night. |

Theyre deffinately in huge trouble. I'm not looking forward to explaining to people why Korea didn't go through even though they'd be tied in points with 5 after a draw. |

I'll be up front and admit that I don't know much about football, I mean soccer, I mean ...
But here's what I do know:
Korea beat Togo.
Switzerland beat Togo.
Korea tied France.
Switzerland tied France.
To me, it looks too close to call.
Also, I have a question to those knowledgeable about football -I mean soccer.
If Korea ties Switzerland, they would be the only two teams without any losses.
Shouldn't that mean that they both go through to the next round?
Shouldn't wins vs. losses have priority over number of goals?

Togo is going to be a few players short b/c of yellow cards. I don't see them beating France. Swiss and Korea both tied with France.
I thought Swiss played better vs France than Korea vs France.
The Swiss vs Korea should be a good game. I think it's possible Korea will win. |

France doesn't have any losses, only two ties. The WC is based on points. (3 for a win, 1 for a draw. 0 for a loss. ) The number of goals come into the picture when two teams have the same number of points. |

Let's put the complex math of a 4 team WC group to one side.
I think that Switzerland will beat Korea. I think that France will beat Togo.
So it's bye bye 대한민국. |

Korean news puts Korea on top of the list. |

It's all about the mojo, baby. The Korean team has got that same weird mojo working for them that they had back in 2002. Their two golden boys pull freakish goals out of their a*ses to beat Togo. They run the French ragged with all their players sprinting back and forth for 90+ minutes like they're half-man half-greyhound (remember 2002 when the Italians accused them of being on steroids for that). Dodgy calls go in their favour. Opposition teams have off field dramas and fail to live up to their potential. I'm tellin' ya', Korea is under the special protection of the football gods, and I predict some completely bizarre, never before seen incident which propels Korea to a last gasp victory over the Swiss which sends the country into raptures, and the nationalist braggadocio into overdrive. |

If Korea pulls off a win against Switzerland they'll meet the weakest possible second round opponent: Ukraine or Saudi Arabia. Which means a trip to the final eight, incredible as that may seem.
If they finish second in the group they're dead the next game: Spain. |

Can you imagine if Spain were ejected by Korean again?
(Yeah, I know 'tain't likely, but as somone said, there's some weird mojo goin' down ... ) |

Can someone clarify for a football novice?
If it comes down to goal differential, how does that work exactly? Goals scored minus goals allowed & the team with the larger difference goes on?
Suppose the goal differential is the same -- whats the tie-breaker then? |

If goal differential is tied... then it is goals scored I believe. For instance if both teams had scenarios like this
Goals Scored Goals Allowed Differential
Imaginary A: 1 1 +0
Imaginary B: 0 0 +0
Team A would advance because they scored one goal. |

I'm not so sure I want to state that the Swiss will beat Korea. Like Manlyboy said, lots of weird mojo about the Koreans and I could see them fluking a win or a draw, hell, even deserving one at this point. As much as I now want to see a group of 16 without the red devils, mainly because I can't believe some of the *beep* I have heard people around here spout over the last seven days, I am not game to predict it. |
