Imagine the outcome of the match if Korea's performance was not, once again, enhanced by a bad call in their favour. 2 to 1 for France. Given that Switzerland won pretty easily against Togo yesterday, Korea would have been out of the competition. France and Switzerland would have advanced to the next round.

Um, no they wouldn't have. A win against the Swiss = qualification.

Good lord man...I said France could have put the game away but didn't.

I never said Korea dominated the game...I said Korea hung in there and took the initiative from the French in the second half when they ran out of gas for a bit...simple enough no?

Also, as it was kindly pointed out to you...had Korea lost to France and with the Swiss win vs Togo they would not have been out...it would have been Swiss 4 points--Korea 3 with the final game deciding it all....learn to count. If Korea beat the Swiss they would be in no matter what.

Odds are in favour of Switzerland.

Luck played a part...but so did France not capitalizing on numerous scoring chances...and the Korean goalie saving the draw vs Henry in the dying minutes.

France shot its bolt in the first half, ran out of gas and the fittest team was able to claw back in the game. Kudos to them for hanging tough.

The goal-no goal call was understandable...there is no video replay in Football so to rule a goal in the ref had to had indisputable evidence it was a goal. At the speed it happened and with the fact that no French player or coach complained on the spot...it is understandable the ref did not rule it a goal.

As for Koreas goal, it was far from shoddy...it was a great header in front of the goal where Park was placed and redirected the ball in with his foot...nothing wrong with that goal.

France blew several scoring chances, Korea hung in there and took it to France in the second half when the frenchmen ran out of gas....and Zidane was basically invisible....

draw.

This whole they were lucky crap is getting old.

Was Ghana lucky vs the Czeks? What about Japan vs Croatia (0-0), Trinidad and Tobago who also forced a draw vs a better team in their opener....wait..only Korea gets lucky...others just upset better teams... Laughing

i understand your point, and i am not one of the people saying Korea is lucky, but i think people say things like that when Koreans run around telling you they are the BEST because they took fourth in 2002.

I can't say about what is going on in Japan or Ghana, but i am sure they dont believe they are the best in the world because of one game. (or two or three). I am not running around telling everyone the USA is the best and will win because they tied Italy ( a real possible best in the world) when they were down a man...
I didnt tell my Italian teacher Italy lost, or tell all the Koreans how wonderful the USA is because of soccer.

people say stuff like that when they are prompted....

you know what? I am going to put this bad boy to rest. The Republic of Korea WILL fail. Whether their death be at the hands of Spain or Brazil, as of June 27th, their inevitable fate will be met. So......have a nice day.

cubanlord...of course they will not win the cup...no one would be fool enough to say that. If they make it to the next round great for them! If not too bad. The point is to cheer for your team and not to start hoping they lose or to decry every win or draw as lucky or because of the ref or whatever other reason a person might come up with.

Some of the people who think Korean fans think that are not listening...also, antoniothegreat, no one in my immediate circle (Korean friends and family) thinks Korea is the BEST team...they are just proud of their team...big difference. Wink

I am not too sure about that. I have had Korean fans tell me that Germans said it would be a Brazil - Korea final. In whose dreams. Rolling Eyes

I have also heard a Korean friend tell me that Korea will win because "God is on our side." I told her God is on no one's side, especially one named the "Red Devils" Razz

It is the Hyper Nationalism that gets to me. It is just a game, pure and simple. Koreans have gone way past that point. I just hope things will be alright if they lose.

That being said, good luck against the Swiss. They're gonna need it. Smile

Just an observation but I think you are over estimating the Swiss teams strenght.

They do not have the attack France has, nor the speed and skill. Korea can most likely match up with them. Who knows what will happen on Friday.

I'm sure Samsung could buy every referee and the world cup itself if it really wanted to. Hmm..how much does a referee earn? Less than a fat Korean envelope?

The Swiss looked very dodgy in defence a few times against Togo. However, Korea doesn't exactly have a cutting edge attack. We'll see how it goes.
