How long can we stay in the country after our E2 Visa expires?

I'm hearing all kinds of different things on this one. My director told a girl who's leaving soon that she has two weeks from the end of her visa to stay in Korea...but personally I suspect this may be a lie to screw the girl over somehow.

Anyone know?

Yes.

You/she MUST have cleared through passport control NO LATER THAN midnight on the expiry date indicated on your ARC.

If you/she are here even 1 hour later you will be harassed, possibly detained AND fined for being in an overstay stiuation. You will also get a "black mark" in your file that will be noted on future visits or visa applications.

If you/she needs to stay beyond that date she MUST get an extension.

To get an extension simply take your plane ticket, your ARC and your passport to the immigration office and they will extend you until your flight. This short extension (1-29 days) is FREE.

MAKE note: no plane ticket = no extension.

"Dear Homeland Security

I am Korean legally working in USA. My period of stay expires on 30 June 2006.

How long may I stay in the country after that date?

Yours faithfully"

You have 14 days after you finish your job. The employer is supposed to cancel your E2 and immi will issue you with an exit order. Smile

That's only true if you leave before your contract and VISA are complete. If you complete the contract and the VISA, then you must leave by the date on your ARC. You can extend this with no problems as long as you can show you are leaving the country within a month.
