|
|
Ahh, finally summer is here. What 's your 3 favorite summer songs?
Mine:
Peaches / The Stranglers
Burning for you / The Blue Oyster Cult
Summertime / Billie holiday
Peaches - The Stranglers
Strolling along minding my own business
There goes a girl and a half
She's got me going up and down
She's got me going up and down
Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches
Well I got the notion girl that
You got some sun tan lotion in that bottle of yours
Spread it all over my peeling skin baby
That feels really good
All this skirt
Lapping up the sun
Lap me up
(Why don't you come on and)
Lap me up
Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches
There goes another one
Just lying down on the sand dunes
Better go and take a swim
And see if I can cool down a little bit
'Cos you and me woman
We got a lotta things on our minds
(You know what I mean)
Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches
Will you just take a look over there
Where?
There
Is she trying to get out of that clitoris
Liberation for women
That's what I preach
Preacher man
Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches
Oh shit! There goes the charabang
Looks like I'm gonna be stuck here the whole summer
Well what a bummer
I can think of a lot worse places to be
Like down in the street
Or down in the sewer
Or even on the end of a skewer
Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches
Burnin' For You / Blue Oyster Cult
Home in the valley
Home in the city
Home isn't pretty
Ain't no home for me
Home in the darkness
Home on the highway
Home isn't my way
Home will never be
Burn out the day
Burn out the night
I can't see no reason to put up a fight
I'm living for giving the devil his due
And I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you
I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you
Time is the essence
Time is the season
Time ain't no reason
Got no time to slow
Time everlasting
Time to play besides
Time ain't on my side
Time I'll never know
Burn out the day
Burn out the night
I'm not the one to tell you what's wrong or what's right
I've seen signs of what (freezing their eyes) went through
Well I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you
I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you
Burn out the day
Burn out the night
I can't see no reason to put up a fight
I'm living for giving the devil his due
And I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you
I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you
Summertime / Billie Holiday
Summertime
and the livin' is easy
fish are jumpin
and the cotton is high
oh your daddy's rich
and your ma is good lookin'
so hush little baby
don't you cry
One of these mornin's
you're gonna rise up singin'
yes you spread your wings
and you take to the skys
but till' that mornin'
theres nothin' that can harm you
yes your daddy and mammy
stand and wave you goodbye
summertime
and the livin' is easy
fish are jumpin'
and the cotton is high
oh your daddy's rich
and you ma is good lookin'
so hush little baby
baby don't you cry
don't you cry |

Got to be..This Summer
by Squeeze
Brain engages mouth
Mouth expresses thoughts
Of how we shared those fun fair rides
Beneath the darkness of the night
Time can crowd the head
Like a sardine can
The summer that began to blur
Has put us on the calendar
This summer there won't be a cloud in the sky
I'm so made up I feel I could take off and fly
This summer we've pulled all the sheets off the bed
I'm so happy I can't get you out of my head
This summer I am so in love with you
Mornings pass us by
As curtains hide the sun
Nights we spent out of control
Like two flags wrapped around a pole
I see the helter skelter lights
And hear the music in the breeze
And when we're skimming stones tonight
It feels so good that you're with me
This summer there won't be a cloud in the sky
I'm so made up I feel I could take off and fly
This summer we've pulled all the sheets off the bed
I'm so happy I can't get you out of my head
There's no reason to ever feel lonely again
This summer I am so in love with you |

1. Dancin' In the Streets-- anyone who ever wanted to record this tune. It was gooood.
2. Any Beach Boys tune....they are 'all' about summer. Surfin USA comes to mind, but I don't exclude any of their other songs.
3. Summer In the City--Lovin' Spoonful--
Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, Isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head.
Chorus:
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright
And Babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, In the city, In the summer, In the city |

I like to listen to mellow songs during the summer. It's too hot and sweaty to get into a frenzy, especially in Busan.
After some perusal I've selected these three songs from my limited collection:
Smoother - East Side (Hamilton, Ontario band - they may be defunct now I have no idea)
311 - Don't Stay Home (not necessarily this song, but their sound in general is really nice in summer by the pool)
Arrested Development - In The Sunshine. This one reminds me of when I was in grade 12 and trying to convince the lovely Yvonne Chin in OAC Algebra and Geometry to move to Georgia after high school and have us a peach farm. Yvonne, we could still make it happen). |

Inna Summertime - shaggy
Peaches - The Presidents of the United States of America
Summertime Blues - The Who
| Quote: |
It's a summertime affair
Shaggy, ha, Rayvon
Sun and fun in the atmosphere, oh yes
Rayvon
In the summertime when the weather is fine
And you could strech you right up and touch the sky
Now when the weather is fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
I'm gonna driving right and see now what I can find
Now if her daddy is rich take her out for a meal
And if her daddy is poor just then do what you feel
Speeding down the lane even though the speed limit is twenty five
And when the sun goes down I'll make it with my cutie pie
Weh me say
Pretty little women sexy as can be
Sweet as a honey sting like bumble bee
Shaggy say, pretty little women sexy as can be
Sweet as a honey sting like bumble bee
Verse 1:
It's a summertime affair inna at the atmosphere(ME)
I man love her attire and the clothes that she wear
Some of them a burn off them tire, some of them a draw down gear
While some of them a shine up some a wax up not a sign off smear
Gotta be rolling in my chrisas that the girls them stare
This is Shaggy and Rayvon as your ultimate pair
Taking care of our career so tell the world beware
Cause it's a brand new selection for your musical ear
Rayvon
And so we say what we want and we say what we need
And we love everybody, but we do as we please
And when the weather is fine we go fishing, we go fishing in the sea
We are always happy to live, life that's our philosophy
Now if her daddy is rich take her out for a meal
And if her daddy is poor just then do as you feel
Speeding down the lane even though the speed limit is twenty five
And when the sun goes down I'll make it with my cutie pie
Sweat a run off her body with her caramel skin
I man smiled at her, she looked at me and gave me a grin
I man offered her a drink and she said juice and gin
And as I whispered in her ear I asked her how you doing
Where was it that I reside and I told her Brooklyn
Atmosphere filled with romance eyes her sparkling
Just her voice and what she said a let my poor head spin
Raggamuffin' Shaggy now with a musical swing
I say pretty little women sexy as can be
Sweet as a honey sting like bumble bee
Shaggy say, pretty little women sexy as can be
Sweet as a honey sting like bumble bee

Movin to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat me a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin to the country,
Gonna eat a lot of peaches
Peaches come from a can,
They were put there by a man
In a factory downtown
If I had my little way,
Id eat peaches every day
Sun-soakin bulges in the shade
Take a little naps where the roots all twist
Squished a rotten peach in my fist
And dreamed about you, woman,
I poked my finger down inside
Make a little room for it to hide
Natures candy in my hand or can or a pie
Millions of peaches, peaches for me
Millions of peaches, peaches for free |

Well I'm gonna raise a fuss
And I'm gonna raise a holler
About workin' all summer
Just tryin' to earn a dollar
Well, I went to my boss
Who governs me
He said, "No, dice, bud
You gotta work late"
Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Well, my mom and papa told me
Now you better earn some money
If one of you is gonna go
Ridin' next Sunday
Well, I didn't go to work
I told my boss I was sick
He said, "You can't use the car
'Cause you didn't work a lick"
Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Gonna save two weeks
Gonna have a fine vacation
Gonna take my problem
To the United Nations
Well, I went to my congressman
He sent me back a note
It said, "I''d like to help you, hon
But you're too young to vote"
Sometime I wonder
What I'm gonnna do
There ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Now there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues
Now there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues |

IN THE SUMMERTIME
by Mungo Jerry
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh
In the summertime when the weather is hot
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find
If her daddy's rich take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor just do what you feel
Speed along the lane
You can dine for a dollar twenty-five
When the sun goes down
You can make it, make it good in a lay-by
We're no threat, people
We're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody but we do as we please
When the weather's fine
We go fishin' or go swimmin' in the sea
We're always happy
Life's for livin' yeah, that's our philosophy
Sing along with us
Dee dee dee-dee dee
Dah dah dah-dah dah
Yeah we're hap-happy
Dah dah-dah
Dee-dah-do dee-dah-do dah-do-dah
Dah-do-dah-dah-dah
Dah-dah-dah do-dah-dah

Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh
When the winter's here, yeah it's party time
Bring your bottle, wear your bright clothes
It'll soon be summertime
And we'll sing again
We'll go drivin' or maybe we'll settle down
If she's rich, if she's nice
Bring your friends and we'll all go into town
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh

Flip Flop And Fly
by
Charles E. Calhoun
Lou Willie Turner
recording of 1955-1957
from
Atlantic Rhythm & Blues: Vol 3, 1955-1957 (Atlantic 81295-2)
Now when I get the blues, I get me a rockin' chair
When I get the blues, I get me a rockin' chair
Well, if the blues overtake me gonna rock right away from here
Now when I get lonesome, I jump on the telephone
When I get lonesome, I jump on the telephone
I call my baby, tell her I'm on my way back home
Now flip, flop and fly, I don't care if I die
Now flip, flop and fly, I don't care if I die
Don't ever leave me, don't ever say goodbye
Give me one more kiss, hold it a long long time
Give me one more kiss, hold it a long long time
Now love me baby, till the feelin' hits my head like wine
Here comes my baby, flashin' her new gold tooth
Here comes my baby, flashin' her new gold tooth
Well she's so small, she can mambo in a pay phone booth
Now flip, flop and fly, I don't care if I die
Now flip, flop and fly, I don't care if I die
Ah, don't ever leave me, don't ever say goodbye
I'm like a Mississippi bullfrog, sittin' on a hollow stump
I'm like a Mississippi bullfrog, sittin' on a hollow stump
I got so many women, I don't know which way to jump
Now flip, flop and fly, I don't care if I die
Now flip, flop and fly, I don't care if I die
Now, don't ever leave me, don't ever say goodbye
Oh my!

You aint got no ambition
Gone fishin by a shady wady pool (shangrila, really la)
Im wishin I could be that kind of fool (should I twist your arm? )
Id say no more work for mine (welcome to the club)
On my door Id hang a sign
Gone fishin instead of just a-wishin

Mmm, you aint workin anymore (I dont have to work, I got me a piece of gary)
Cows need milkin in the barn (I have the twins on that detail, they each take a side)
But you just dont give a darn (give em four bits a cow and hand lotion)
You just never seem to learn (man, you taught me)
You aint got no ambition (youre convincin me)
Gone fishin (bah-boo-dah-do-dah-do-dah-do)
Got your hound dog by your side (thats old cindy-lou goin with me)
