And, after all, the refs can't manipulate the ball to go in the basket, can they?

I know you don't really believe this because you are able to spell correctly, most of the time. And one who does, I assume, is armed with the capacity to reason - i.e. has the intellect of a monkey or better.
Technically no. The ref cannot actually throw the ball into the basket. But indirectly...yes, the ref can "manipulate the ball to go in the basket." This he can do by violating the spirit of the game.
How?
By allowing a player a free throw at the basket with no defenders in the player's face. Ordinarily, this is the referee's job.
But if no foul has been committed on a play, this act - the act of stopping the game and allowing a player an easier shot when no foul has been committed - should be as tolerable as your ad hominem attacks. |

Is "touching" a foul? Why can't no one lay a finger on Wayde without being whistled for a foul?
Just like there is an anti-Cowboy bias in the NFL Hall, there is a f*cking conspiracy against the Mavs in the Finals. And I can do nothing about it.
Let's determine the reason.
If the Mavs sweep the Heat, then the NBA won't profit of its product as much as it potentially could.
"Oh, I know. We'll stretch this series to 7 games. That way, everyone will make more money."
"But the Mavs are a vastly superior team. Won't we screw 'em?"
"You don't worry about that, Johnny. We need to make money, and overinflate the Heat's strengths by having officials make the worst calls at crucial times."
"Dad, I don't understand. Why can't things be fair?"
"Son, because money is more important. And it is important that you learn this important lesson at such an important age."
___________
I don't care about this series anymore. Win. Lose. Whatever.
Yes, everyone on Miami is a Hall of Famer.
Yes, they deserve to win.
Yes, touching Wayde is illegal, per se.
Yes, Posey is more deadly than Drazen behind the arc.
Yes, Haslet is the most impressive defender I have ever seen.
Yes, Williams is a franchise player.
Yes, Payton is nothing but clutch.
Yes, the City of Miami has the best fans in the world.
Let's see what else.
Oh, Pat Riley is the greatest coach, ever. |
This is the biggest load of crap I've read in a long time. Your ego has been bruised, I get that, but who are you kidding here?
Wade has simply been more clutch than Dirk... Miami is obviously the deeper team.. they adjusted after the first 2 games and are now in a well-earned position to clinch it. |

Wade should have never gotten that call at the end of the game.
No ref has ever made a call like that in the history of the NBA finals.
What? You're going to give him two foulshots for jumping into other players with 1.2 seconds left?
The refs bailed out the Heat. Wade is a great player. He's clutch. It's nothing against him.
But the guy who made that call ought to be ashamed of himself. |

And that is the last NBA game I will ever watch.
Really, this Finals was nothing short of a trumped up version of wrestling.
Fact. The Mavs lost three games in a row once all season, and back to back games, twice.
Fact. Wade pushes Dirk with his forearm, and Dirk gets whistled for a foul.
Fact. Wade is a great player.
Fact. He is not Michael Jordan.
Fact. The NBA didn't want the Mavs to win b/c of Cuban.
This was a conspiracy.
I'll stick to MLB. At least there's no cheating in baseball.
Er. Wait. |

So you're saying the refs gave game 6 to the Heat as well? Give me a break. If Terry's last-second 3-pointer had gone in, a case could have been made that the refs were giving the game to the Mavs.
Fact is, Miami was the better team; Dirk's a choker and not yet ready to compete at a championship level (neither are most of his teammates); the Heat outplayed the Mavs and beat them 4 straight games.
Don't be such a baby about it. There's always next year to look forward to.
BTW, Dirk DID push Wade in the back on the final play in game 5. That's why Salvatore, who was behind the play, called it.

The NBA is a star driven league. Wade has gotten "star" treatment from the get go. Wade is a more agressive player than Dirk and more of a marketable player, thus the increase # of questionable calls in his favor.
Miami was the better team in the series. Refs are human and their mistakes are part of the game.
NBA has slowly moved from "team" to "me" ever since the late 80's. I blame Jordan. NBA realized the had a gold mine by marketing players, and slowly steered away from the "team" game.
Speaking as a Raptor fan, we lost countless amount of games due to the lack of "star" calls for VC. |

Re: the Simmons's article
(And to paraphrase the guy who gets stomped by Rollergirl in Boogie Nights, his columns suck now anyways.)
He's afraid D-Wade winning a championship will negatively affect the L? He wants championship teams to be comprised of boring, choking players; whining players, coaches (Avery, what gives man?) and owners?
Sounds fun.
Simmons has a huge bias against Riles, that's all.
Plus, his claim that the Heat are a one-man show is ridiculous (see: Gary Payton's huge contributions late in games 3 and 5, also: the Miami Heat juggernaut in game 6), and completely ignored the success as a team which the Heat enjoyed ever since game 2 of their 2nd-round series with the Nets.
