In light of recent events, encouraging someone to off themself isn't merely uncool, it's global thermo nuclear uncool.

Goddamit....Think, before you start spewing the verbal diarrhea!

Mac maybe you should **** reading the thread before defending someone who is spewing verbal diarrhea.

I simply stated my experience and was attacked.

So go F*ck off!

Rest assured, I'm well aware of what's taking place on this thread, as I started it. Now, if we could please get back to the original discussion, perhaps someone might actually benefit from it. Rolling Eyes

What recent events?, korea beating togo?. Get back to reality mack. This thread name should be changed as well since so far you have failed to present a convincing argument as to why not to sign with GEPIK.

as in Shawner jumping off a tall structure..not a bridge but same diff.[/quote]

I don't even know where to start.

First: You attribute my quote to the wrong person (Rawiri).

Second: If I (and others) have failed to present a clear case as to why GEPIK is no longer a good option, then sign away. It's no skin off my back. In fact, it leaves open more decent positions for me. In fact, thank you.

Third: Do the research. Do the math. Read the other threads about GEPIK here on Dave's, for a start. It's not what it's cut out to be. Notice how most of the folks who dig GEPIK are noobs? Coincidence?

Fourth: Recent events = a well known poster from ESLcafe killed himself. But again, it's no skin off my back if you want to be an insensitive sh*t. Hell, that's usually my M.O. By I know where and when to draw the line. That's why I'm still around after all these years.

I'm at GEPIK. 5 Pros and cons:

FOR:

1) Well organised. Good syllabus. Smile
2) Good co teacher: strict with the kids and enjoys teaching, probably even more than I do. I just let her go for it while i browse the net. Smile
3) Brand new school: less than 1 yr old. Effortless computer generated teaching. New appt and all new furnishings. Smile
4) Mostly friendly and professional co workers
5) pay 2.3 is OK. Smile

AGAINST:

1) Time off only 2 weeks! Evil or Very Mad
2) Summer camp Evil or Very Mad
3) Have to undergo various exercises in time wasting: attending incomprehensible meetings, doing demo lessons, going to teacher training etc..
4) Korean male teachers show signs of resentment
5) Detailed lesson plans (Hate)

Junior, I agree with what your saying. Also as I'd said before a Pro (at least for my school) is they were flexible with me in terms of time off.

I don't know about the camps, because I haven't gotten that far yet. The teacher training and demo lessons are not something I've been told about yet either, but it depends on how often they are. No one has really stated if they are monthly, a few times a year or once a year.

The detailed lesson plans aren't totally bad. Sometimes I question whether they help the kids at all.

I can't understand any of these complaints at all. I have never experienced any of these bad things and I work for Gepik. I am not required to attend teacher meetings, do training, do demos or submit lesson plans. There apparently was some orientation for new teachers as well but I know teachers who didn't have to go. I didn't. The schools aren't even open past 5:30 - 6pm so how can they have meetings until 8pm? Unless you have them somewhere else? I don't see how it is possible to teach a class at 8am since all the schools in my area don't even start until 9am. I'm not bad mouthing anyone or even criticizing but it would seem that everyone's situation is different so it's pointless to tell other people how bad Gepik is, since their situation will undoubtedly be different.

My school also doesn't start until 9AM, but I start at 8AM. It is the special English class that most (or all) school have had since March. Most schools do 6 hours per week. My students couldn't come in the afternoon because they went to too many hagwons, so my school got me to do it before class started at 8AM. [/u]

I really have no idea about this meeting thing, nor do I care because I am not staying, but... I really don't think this would be a problem. If they scheduled meetings, I am sure the government could ask a school to stay open until 8PM. After all, they do own the school.

It's not as different as you would think. All of the GEPIK teachers in Uijeongbu quit, save one, who remained undecided when I last heard.

ALL of the teachers.

Chew on that.

Don't get mad, get even. If I were you I would write a 20 page report in excruciating detail. For example:

"I woke up at eight o'clock got up and went to the bathroom. I had a bowel movement."
(go into detail about bowel movement--good for half a poge)
"Next I had to shave. I splashed water on my face to lubricate the skin and then applied shaving cream all over my cheeks, upper and lower lip, chin and upper portions of the neck. I checked my razor. It was a dull blade. I took the blade out, and inserted a new one. During which operation I cut two fingers...."

Or you could write a much shorter one, but have your dictionary and theosaurus handy. Use the longest, most complex words you can find.

I can pretty much promise he won't ask you that again.

Haha Laughing Laughing

I have to write about Korean culture, so maybe I will write about visiting Korea town in Toronto, or I will visit a place with the double barber poles and tell him about Korean culture.

I think that I will just end up not doing it. What is he going to do? Are writing reports in my contract? No. I just don't really care anymore. I feel like if I am going to be treated like I did something wrong, then maybe I should just do something wrong. Maybe, I will take my remaining 11 sick days even though we only have 20 work days left before summer.

Are you not capable of thinking from another person's perspective? How about famine? have you ever experienced famine? No? Ok, but are you able to grasp the idea that famine is a real thing that some people go through? Just because you havent experiencd these problems yourself is it that big of a cognitive leap for you to realize that others HAVE?

I suggested what you should do. You have to make him lose serious face infront of others.

Interesting.
Did they all give notice, or just walk? Did they have trouble getting released from their E2, etc?

Have fun with your paperwork. My last 'vacation report' was a 2 page epic describing how I spent two weeks shopping, drinking and shagging. If any native speaker actually read it, they would have pissed themselves. I find that these sort of activities sharpen my written english skills, and at least put my vastly over-priced education to use.
