| I'm not bad mouthing anyone or even criticizing but it would seem that everyone's situation is different so it's pointless to tell other people how bad Gepik is, since their situation will undoubtedly be different. |
It's not as different as you would think. All of the GEPIK teachers in Uijeongbu quit, save one, who remained undecided when I last heard.
ALL of the teachers.
Chew on that. |
Interesting.
Did they all give notice, or just walk? Did they have trouble getting released from their E2, etc? |

| Have fun with your paperwork. My last 'vacation report' was a 2 page epic describing how I spent two weeks shopping, drinking and shagging. If any native speaker actually read it, they would have pissed themselves. I find that these sort of activities sharpen my written english skills, and at least put my vastly over-priced education to use. |
What might be fun is to cut and paste some random thing off of the internet. Like maybe some erotic Alf fan fiction.
Hey, works for my students. |

None of us renewed because:
1) No pay increase.
2) They were asking us to attend several unpaid, after school Friday meetings per month.
3) The winter/summer camp thing was getting weird. Something about us having to teach at various English villages/schools rather than at our own schools.
4) Up until now, as far as I know, none of us taught during winter/summer vacation (except for the 2 week camp). That was going to change (starting next winter, must teach 20 hours during vacation PER WEEK).
Perhaps this was all just Uijeongbu. Too bad more GEPIKers aren't posting on this thread. There are some 150-200 (or more) of us out there. |

Haha
I have to write about Korean culture... |
The Namdaemun gates opened up this morning, and out came a beast fed on samgyop and garlic and shaped like North Korea. It smelled like a Seoul alley and had the consistency of tubu. It made me realize what horror that bear must have went through after giving birth to Korea.
Too poetic?

Regarding #2 would it be possible to give more information on it. I am specifically interested in where these meetings would take place. Was it just for foreign teachers in some place? Or was it at the actual school with everyone attending? Did they give any reason for these meetings?
Regarding #3 just tell them that you're only allowed to teach at your workplace. |

#3 is the easiest to address, so I'll answer that one first. It states in our contracts that we may have to work in different locations. It's quite easy to get permission to work at separate locations, especially when you work for the government.
With regards to #2, all Uijeongbu teachers have to meet at the Uijeongbu government office two or three times a month. We had a meeting last week and the Korean co-teachers were given a packet which explained it all in Korean. Naturally, the foreigner teachers were given nothing. Fortunately, my co-teacher knows the deal and explained it all to me. Twice a month, we would meet at 6 pm at the office for "English Cafe" meetings. The meetings are not optional. In addition to that, there are also other meetings on the agenda, although I merely saw the dates and didn't ask about those. |
