|
|
I've been tempted to do this for a while. I have been kicked around on this forum and that other one, on occasion, for my age. But I have never lied about my age, and am really rather comfortable with it. I have yet to consider myself old, but I am seriously aware of my age.
I will be 58 next month. I will also be gearing up for a career change, and starting to set up my next home in Thailand. I'll be off to India and Nepal in the winter.
Anyway, thirty year old zappadelta got me thinking with his thread on "getting old". Given the grief I am sometimes given, in cyberspace, where it is safe to kick people around, I have often felt that aging is a real fear for many people posting here.
So, I am open for questions and discussion about aging. I will try not to shy away from difficult qestions.
Fire away. |

I'm also getting older.
I'm thrity-seven and have quite a beer belly.
Do you think I'm too old to wear a thong? Could I possibly pull this off, or would I be committing a fashion faux pas.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much, Grandmother. |

I wouldn't worry too much, from the (self) reports of your drinking habits- you won't have to worry about getting old.
No problem with "Grandmother"- I have two beautiful, intelligent, gentle grandsons being raised by my beautiful, intelligent and talented daughter. And I am free to roam the world- and no beer bellied ajoshi can ask me to cook for him while he drinks his youth away.
I would say that if you want to get old, and be still moderately attractive for when the wife has had enough of your bad habits, you might want to work on the beer belly. It doesn't even work for 58 year old women, let alone younger ones. |

That's great, Grandmother.
But let's get back to the thong. |

Older women can be attractive. id say the cut off is about 45. But how do older women, the sexy milf kinds, feel about younger men? |

Has it gone quickly? Every year DOES get shorter as you get older of course (to one's perception). A year is longer for me than it is for you because a year for me is 1/27th of my life whereas for you it's 1/58th. Think about when you were 27 and tell me if it's all gone by horribly quickly? Reason I ask is that I recall being 15, even younger, as though it was last week! Bloody scary stuff. |

I'd like to ask about the career change you mentioned for yourself, your new home in Thailand, and going to India and Nepal this coming Winter. In the aspect of saved money from working in Korea going further in a place like Thailand. Will you live in Thailand and continue to teach English? It seems like this is a result of a plan of yours which is coming to fruition....Do you have any suggestions to Korean eslers, aging, who'd like a house in Thailand, too, as well as a career change? |

Why do some people dress old? I mean especially in Korea, you don't see many older people wearing bright colors? Peer pressure?
I think one way of looking and feeling young is to dress young. "F' what nasty things your peers might have to say about it. They're jealous because they haven't got the guts to be independant like you.
It disappoints me that a lot of older people want to look old. I also find it comical that the 20 something Korean female teachers in my school wear dresses that look like they're from George Washington's generation - long skirt with lots of frills. |

That's a great question. It is not what it was in my thirties, but not bad, really. I feel better and have more energy when I am doing more physically demanding work. It certainly takes longer to recover from a night on the town, but those aren't so interesting, anyway. I guess you could say I have less energy, but use it more wisely.
I am in the process of transitioning back to what I was doing before I came here. I sold my candle making business, but every winter I go back and work with my friend, the new owner (whose major business is furniture and accessories from S. E. Asia. I'll be doing some of all of the business. When I am working with that business, I have a lot more energy and put in very long days. I think the key is to love what you are doing. Honestly, at the moment, I don't. |

How can you make a mature woman love you when they don't? |

I have been surprised at how my taste in men has changed. My sexy hunk of the moment is that bar owner guy from "Deadwood". Young young men are not so interesting these days, but in my early forties I did go out with young men, for the fun of it. And it was fun.
Intelligence and humor are sexy. I think anyone at almost any age can be sexy if they have the goods. |

Actually, I disagree with EFL Trainer. I don't find that time goes so fast. 27 seems like eons ago (it was ) and not something I would want to relive.
I do a lot of traveling and switching things around in my life. Sometimes I can't believe that it has been less than a year since I was last in Bangkok- I have done so much since, it seems like at least two!
I think maybe my perception is affected by the longevity in my family. My older relations seem to hang on well at least to close to 100. I guess I don't think much about getting old and dying, I am more interested in considering my next career and adventure. Honestly, that is how I feel, not just pretty words. |
