Is there some kind of Korean law to have provide the bonus? Or is it an incentive that the majority of schools use to keep you from bolting?
I'm asking, because I'm not getting one, nor am I getting airfare. It's not THAT big a deal as I'm planning to fly somewhere fairly close as soon as I reach my tolerance threshold. However, I wouldn't mind getting that extra month pay, and I certainly don't mind strong-arming the school. As long as they're required to pay it.
As for checking my contract, well the school never provided me with a copy and LOST theirs. Can I get a copy from immigration? And do I NEED a copy of my contract to collect my pension? I got flung some sort of pension certificate that looks fairly official.
Despite all this I actually have a fairly good job, if you can believe it. There a advantages to working for a school this disorganized. |

| Yeah, I know how it sounds, but trust me, I'm fine. My pay is around 2.7 and I work about 4 hours a day. No hanging around looking busy if I have no class. It balances out, but as I said, I wouldn't mind forcing the school to pay if they have to. |

Pension and severance are both required by law.
Severance is equal to 1 months pay for each FULL year worked. It is paid directly to you by your employer when you finish your contract.

Let me quote:
"f a worker has worked for more than one year in a workplace with 5 workers or more, the worker shall be given severance pay in the amount of at least 30-day average wages for each year of service. Severance pay, in principle, should be paid after retirement. However, should a worker request, he or she may receive, in advance, severance pay corresponding to their years of service to date."
Pension is paid to you when you leave Korea. You have to make your application to the national pension office.
