Are there any cheap ways of getting to Russia (Vladivostok) from South Korea? I've heard that commercial flights can be pricey.
Thanks |

There's a ferry service running from Sokcho, in Gangwon-do, direct to Vladivostok. Not exactly direct coming from Seoul, but maybe cheaper (?)

Seoul - Vladivostock, Russia (via Sokcho)
Catch a deluxe bus from Seoul to Sokcho with the first leaving at 06.30 and the last at 23.30. Buses leave every 30 - 60 minutes and takes four hours. The cost is 17,500KRW.
Ferry leaves Sokcho Monday and Wednesday at 14:00 (but you need to board at noon) and Friday at 15:00 (board at 13:00).
The ferry arrives at Zarubino at 10:00m, Tuesday. Then sails again and arrives at Vladivostock at 16:00 or you can catch a bus to Vladivostok which takes about four hours.
Visas are required to enter Russia
A third class tickets costs about 175,000KRW one-way.
Why? - access to Russia and the Trans-Siberian Railway

I'm really sceptical whenever people say the Sokcho-Zarubino ferry runs three times a week.
Clearly it doesn't.
I don't see how it has time to go from Sokcho to Russia on a Monday, then come back to Korea in time for **another** sailing 48 hours later on a Wednesday and then be back for a third run on a Friday.
Yes it does operate, but not as frequently as three times a week. |
