At soccer!

Everything else we seem to have talent at.

But Soccer? I think we need to lay down martial law. Anyone getting caught playing soccer on American soil should be immediately cornholed and shot.

The best thing that could happen to the US team is that that egotistical *beep* named Arena is let go..

I've never witnessed a more over-rated coach in my life.. and nothing is EVER his fault..

Get a decent coach in there who everyone respects, and good things will happen for the US.. you have the resources, you have a large population to choose from.. there is no reason you guys shouldn't be contenders...

damn....the US goes down in flames. Beasley played better. Donovan was weak. Gooch was awesome on D. Dempsey had a very nice strike. The ref had a fun time blowing the whistle. The PK awarded to Ghana at the end of the first half was crap!!! but nonetheless, the US didn't do anything to try and comeback. they had one flurry in the 65th-70 minute which resulted in a McBride header off the post....but that was it. even if it had been no PK, score would have ended up tied (then again..u never know what the confidence level would have been like if the US went to the half tied). so reyna gives up a goal, crappy PK, nice strike by Clint and the US is now out.


2010....4 more years. need someone other than Arena.

hopefully Giuseppe Rossi gives up his dream of playing for Italy and plays for the US.

also, Jay DeMerit? why wasn't he brought into camp? Twellman?


Donovana and Beas gotta get their sh-t ready for 2010. Dempsey and Gooch will be there...maybe Ching.

Penalty kicks are pretty stupid. I wonder what % of all soccer goals are from penalty kicks.

Also the issue of indifference. I never watched soccer in 30 years in the US.
Now I'm crazy about it, and don't even know the rules.
I thought US has a good coach, but maybe just from seeing him so much.
I also think we change players too often so never develop a coherent team. I'll have to look that up.

I, for one, think its time for some good old fashioned sour grapes:

We don't need no stinking soccer! Soccer is a sport for unwashed hippies, along with ultimate frisbee and kite flying. I was reading about how the world cup was scoring lower TV ratings in America than women's golf and a children's spelling bee (not even joking on that one). I'm glad we won't be lowering ourselves by further participating in this irrelevant little european kicking game. Soccer sucks, not America!

Not a good enough game by the US last night. They didn't step it up in the second half. Arena waited too long to bring in Johnson in the 2nd, and Donovan and McBride didn't push forward at all. Ghana also seemed to have a half step on all 50/50 balls. The crap penalty call in injury time of the 1st half seemed to take the wind out of us going into the 2nd. We need a tall basketball center (ala Crouch) up front to make long passes forward more effectual. Anything to shake it up.
Anyways, not a good enough job to create an interest in the general US population. Hats off to Ghana.
