Howdy folks -

I did one of those Beijing Package tours about 6 years ago - drove me nuts: "Get on the bus, Get off the bus, get on the bus, get off the bus"

But my folks are coming in October, and want to see the great wall. I have to work but want to be sure they're safe.

Anyone have a link for a decent tour company, preferably one that lets them go to the real markets? Not just the designated tourist traps?

Oh, and English is good too.

I would say rather than booking them with a tour group, try to book a room for them at the Beijing International Youth Hostel ( I think that was the name). It isnt just a hostel but a really nice hotel too (especially if you request a room on the first floor, just down from the checkout counter). They have a tour desk right there in the hotel and you can book cheap tours to see anything you want, including the great wall. The hotel is located right in the heart of Beijing. Its about a 10 minute walk to Tianamen Square and about 20 minutes to the big garden with the big pagoda (sorry short term memory loss). The alley you walk down leads you past some great restaurants and there is plenty of shopping.

Oh yeah, the hotel will even pick you up at the airport for a small fee. It is almost like being on personalized tour.

If you have any specific questions or you cant find the hotel, PM me.
