If you were offered the chance to leave one month early with severence and airfare would you take it? You'd miss out on one month salary, not that it's a small amount, but that the alternative is staying a month (possibly paid..not sure) without work, only to go back to school for the first 2 weeks of classes then head home.

The offer's enticing since one month with no school would equal 30 days of spending since I'd most likely be travelling because I can't sit it around a small town that long with nothing to do.

What would you do? What would you ask for? What would you ensure you'll still get? Keeping in mind that it's a an offer made in good faith, they're not out to get me...just out to save a buck while still being fare.

I am in a similar situation, but I am staying. In August I have only one week of classes as my school is going to let me leave a week early with all bennies anyway. So, I am going to enjoy my two weeks off, come in for the third week of August for farewell lessons for the kids and then away I go. I will use the extra time to get ready for the transition to grad school and it seems like a better deal for me than just taking off without pay for the month. It sounds like you are at a public school as well, and in that case you know as well as I do that your last month, especially as it's August, will be a write-off anyway.

Good luck with the decision.
