yeah, my post disappeared too, I wrote something of the hypocrisy of trademarking such a chant when Koreans eagerly plagiarise cultural artifacts from all over the globe.

I read that article in the Herald also, and I was flabbergasted. I thought of posting it also. Are Koreans so completely detached from reality. Do they think non-Koreans enjoy hearing Taehanminguk chanted every time they turn on the tv, go to a movie theatre, etc..It's loud, obnoxious and really annoying. Has anyone at the Herald asked a single fireigner what they think of the chant? And building a statur. My brain screeches to a halt even contemplating that one. Intellectual copy rights!!!!!

I guess thay Korea's 5000 year history, during which they accomplished diddly, makes them feel that they have to proclaim every little insignifiant thing as a unique Korean accomplishment. After all, what else have they invented or contributed to the world?

I'm off topic, but if you were on the job for 5000 years and the manager suddenly turned up and said "Okay, what havre you invented / accomplished" and the answer was diidly, would you go around boasting about being on the job a full 5000 years.

've been in Korea almost five years, but I usually lie to Koreans and tell them I've been here only a year or two. Why? Because I'm embarrassed that I haven't learned much Korean in that time. So I downplay my time here.

Yet Koreans, who were the most backward of the backward before Western science, technology etc. picked them up and dusted them off, actually BOAST about the 5000 years thing.

Nice enough peopole. Nice enough country. Bizarre thought-processing abilities.

I realize that the Korean Herald isn't necessarily published for the foreign population but some of the crap that rag spits out is unbelievable. Does anyone have the email addy of the dork that wrote that? I'm gonna fire him a nasty email.

Some of my students asked me this week: Are Koreans the best at cheering in the world?

I replied honestly:"They do a great job. You know who else has great cheers? England. They make up funny chants and..."
I trailed off as I saw the crestfallen looks on their faces.
"But yeah, Korea's cheering is very intense."

Yes, the chant is really annoying. If Koreans do it, then the rest of the universe must like it as well. Kinda tells you a little bit about their psyche. Anyway, if the cards fall right, in a few hours it should be all over...hopefully the Swiss rock them and then France does the same. Actually, I'm more worried about those choke artist frenchies...Enjoy

So now American sports fans are doing all this for the Korean soccer team which has never even won a world cup? Man, Brazil are gonna be pissed.

Are these people for freakin' real? Next they'll be telling us they've created patient-specific stem cells.
