One Korean pundit I was watching this morning was bemoaning the fact that the Aussies and Mexico progressed with 4 points, but not Korea. It was the sort of childish ranting of "Those guys went on, so why can't we?". He went on to say that 4 points should be enough to go through, and that it was harsh on the Koreans.
Harsh, maybe. But to allude to the fact that the Korean team has an inherent right to progress just because they were on the same point total as other teams is the sort of footballing naivete and ignorance that wins them no friends, and makes some people pleased to see the the back of them. |

| I couldn't be more happy with last night's games. It was perfect. I've been waiting four years for last night and that satisfaction. They had all the luck calls and fortunate red cards working for them in Korea, and now a few go against them and everyone's up in arms. Funny how they never even noticed them in 2002. They shouldn't have even won the Togo game. Bah, Korean team. |

| I've heard a lot of talk about the refs favouring Switzerland. This was going around back when they beat Togo. Apparently the ref denied Togo two penalty kicks they deserved, and he later admitted it. |
One of my students said that the head of FIFA is Swiss so they will get preferential treatment. I'm sure that was and will be reported again the Korean media. |
one of my coworkers said that to me today too, apparently that's the only reason Switzerland won . Korea didn't play well, they were poor in front of goal and were playing very sloppily. I thought the ref had a good game from what I saw. Korea didn't deserve to go through based on their performance but I'm told that I just can't understand the game because I'm not Korean, whatever that means. |

The President of Fifa is indeed Swiss. I wouldn't be suprised if some funny business was going on. Mind you the Vice President was Korean in 2002. Hmmmm....
All in all though, Korea lost fair and square. They didn't play very well this tournament and have no one to blame but themselves. Karma is a b*tch. they had exceptionally good fortune in 2002 but they didn't have it this time.
They should focus on developing more quality players, actually promoting the K-League at least 1/1000 th of what they put into this World Cup overkill. Furthermore, not listening to their idiotic netizens and getting rid of a coach that qualified them for the World Cup in the first place. (Bonfrere) Wow! 4-0 over Kuwait in the final qualification game isn't good enough since they didn't do it with "style". Sounds like the hagwon telling the Foreigner that they will be fired because of parental complaints but never telling him/her what they are. Lame.
That or Korea can just play the blame game. Gee, I wonder what it will be? |

| honestly, i am just surprised somehow it is not japan's and america's fault. ithought all of korea's problems were because of those two countries. maybe they bribed the officials. that must have been it |

Imagine what Koreans think of Hiddink now.
Those who praised him endlessly before now think he's the next coming.
Those who criticized him in the Korean media now shut the *kimchi* up.
Only the Saudis will be able to match what the Koreans will be willing to pay to retain his services.
Dae-ha-waygook boob boom-boom boom
Korea biting ! |

| What about the handballs they were complaining about? I played soccer years back and don't remember the rule. Were they handballs and should there have been a penalty? Does it have to be an intentional handball for a penalty? I want to have some ammo to respond to the myriad of whinning tomorrow. |

Jesus people..you are acting as if Korea has the monopoly on blaming coaches for a less than expected showing at a sporting tournament!
This is hilarious...
Who were the French blaming after the draw with Swizterland and Korea? The coach thats who. He got fried on the public stage in France by the media and by the fans.
The coach (rightly or not) is always the target in sports. This is hardly a unique event...
Now..this behaviour by fans of other countries is far better right?

Well Homer, Bonfrere stepped down as coach of Korea in large part due to Korea's idiotic netizens. Beating Kuwait 4-0 to qualify wasn't good enough for them since they didn't do it with style.
I honestly don't know many countries that do idiotic things like that. How dare you win 4-0. Should they have won 8-0 with all highlight reel goals?
Korea expects way too much methinks. |
