If you don't like to be called names and you're so mature and above it all, then you should also be above being so smug and condescending (I don't care if you disagree, but it just seemed like arbitrary gainsaying, which is pretty common on this board) to someone who's obviously had a long crappy day being insulted and bounced around Immigration.

You spend from 9:30 to 4 o'clock in Immi when it's almost 90 degeess inside, hungry, tired from being cooked alive in the waiting room, stressed out about money, stressed out because your wife is crying on the phone and upset about the Penalty Officer calling me every vile Korean name I know and then some, having money extorted from you on the spot when you don't have enough to cover it, beg/borrow/or steal the money you don't have to pay the fine/being called a "michinom" for trying to explain why the first violation was not my fault/unavoidable by a guy who is just pretending to understand English, having to walk all over hell's half acre to pay the fine at another location, spend an hour or more on hot and crowded subway car...and THEN see how easy it is to write a coherant post about your experience.

I was feeling crappy and thought that I could make myself feel better by trying to help others avoid the same situation. Sorry it was unclear.

Also, Jinju...sorry you still can't read or think. I pity your students.

I still dont get it. How do you miss your F2 visa expiry date anyway?

Well, Jinju...there were two different dates on the card, and since I hadn't had the ID for more than 10 months I figured I didn't have to worry about it. Apparently the month that Immi holds onto your ID eats up some of time you would otherwise have to use it.

I didn't come here to vent...nor did I come here to be attacked. It was mainly a message for people who have e-2's...if you plan on staying here for a while you don't want to accumulate a record, it can have some expensive repercussions long after you've learned how to avoid problems with dishonest bosses.

Yeah, Captian...I was mad all day, I still feel off this morning. Anyways, I don't post over here often, but hope you E-2 holders can appreciate how brutal Immigration people can be. They don't listen to reason, "I only collect fines, I don't care if it wasn't your fault" as the Penalties Officer said.

Also, as a result of my lack of due diligence, I had to re-apply for my F-2 and since I brough all the documentation I would need to to do so, it wasn't a total wash requiring at leaast two more subsequent visits.

Paper Tiger...your posts are confusing, mate. Not calling names or anything, but there seems to be a couple of things in the story that just don't make sense. It really sounds like you are confusing the visas E2 and F2.

Anyhow, too bad you had to go through all of that stuff. A good heads up to get in early for renewal...or at least on time!

Well.....my take on all this......not that it matters....but if I am in a foreign country....common sense tells me that I and only I am responsible....and that I best be out of the country by the date stamped in my passport.......
I sure would not be blaming no one for my problems....not that you are.
We all know when we must renew our paperwork far in advance. Yep....I'd be pissed off....still...it's my own fault.
And we all know about koreans and the way they do things!
Still...dealing with most koreans, immigration, is like dealing with children.

PaperTiger, I'm sorry you had such a rough time of it. I'm on an E-2 and had no problems so far, but it's good to know it could effect my future F-2 if anything came up.

I had to pay a fine too, many years ago, for being late with the ID card thing. I thought 3 months was 90 days. So I sat in the office, paid the fine, finished in 3 hours.
It really isn't something to get worked up about. It's just bureacracy.

Being stupid and inexperienced is not really a good excuse for breaking the law.
