As for the rankings they are crap...one glance shows that clearly as there is no way the US and Mexico rank higher than some of the better european teams...

Yes...and I'm sure FIFA will immediately act on your concise analytical pronouncement Homer. Man, armchair sports experts, do they never cease to provide laughs? Laughing Laughing Laughing

No one looks at the FIFA rankings seriously anyways. ELO rankings are better but they still suck

I used to love ELO. Living thing and turn to stone were probably my favorites that I can think of. I'd have to rank them in the top 20 anyways for their era. What the hell does this have to do with soccer though?

USA!!???? WTF!!!???? how much did they pay for that ranking??

No one in the US cares enough to pay for rankings or results. I think you are confusing it with the Italian match fixing scandal.

FIFA wants to rank the USA as high as possible in hopes of getting Americans interested in soccer. Big untapped rich market there.
Never gonna happen though.

Yeah, Brazil at #1! WTF is up with that, it should be Korea, right? Rolling Eyes

It is always nice to hear from the peanut gallery.

I think all that time with your head up your posterior has caused brain damage. You really should find something better to do with your free time.

Yeah, like pretend to know more about FIFA rankings than the people at FIFA. But I'm sure they'll change the list to your preference if you email them that their methods "seem dodgy to you". Laughing

I know nothing about soccer but neither do I start threads pretending to know more than the experts. Talk about having too much free time. Rolling Eyes

Interesting logic TrollBoy. By asking how FIFA determines the ranking I pretended to be an expert?

That makes as much sense as assuming that because I asked why Mexico and the USA are ranked 4th and 5th (I should have mentioned the Czech position as seeming strange too.) that I think Korea should be 1st. Hey, you did partially prove the old adage. You assumed and made an ass out of yourself.

I suppose I shouldn't expect you to make much sense. Trolls rarely do. I hope you enjoyed your dinner.

Of course, nobody complained about the FIFA rankings in 2002 when some of the top ranked teams in the world got bounced out of the first round.

I guess when highly rated European teams do poorly, it is bad luck, but when the U.S. does poorly, it's because they were over-rated and outclassed.

You do have a point, it isn't like the ranking system became so odd overnight. For myself, I never actually bothered looking at it until this year. I don't know how it could be improved, considering the number of National teams there are. Hopefully one of the experts can fix it up someday.

Sometimes, no matter how highly you are rated, the other team plays better and wins or ties. It is the same in any sport. I forget who said it, or exactly how the quote goes, but "once the ball hits the grass it can go in any direction.".

Yeah, cos Mexico are such a lousy team, especially the way they played against Argentina.

Yes the rankings are flawed.
It does make people chuckle though when they read how far up the US are........
