Ah- trips to Chatanooga. No wonder you're homesick. That's God's country, straight up. I used to want to live there, but I had no idea what kind of job I'd get down there.
You need to listen to Smoky Mountain Rain a few times. That'll make you feel closer to home. ^^
Oh, yeah- in regards to hunting. I don't know about Alabama, but in WI, there's a very limited deer season, and the sole reason for allowing hunting is to keep the deer population in control. Everyone I know (I used to work at a farm/hunting, etc. supply store back when I was 19) consumes the deer (venison sausage, jerky, steaks, etc.). People from the city might not understand hunting culture so well, but its a common sport in rural areas, and for good reason.. It's pretty freaky to drive down a country road at 60mph and have a deer jump in front of your car. |

That's not the reasoning I used. My point, which you seem to be missing, is that dogs did not always eat processed dog "food". They chased, killed things and ate them. Or they ate the scraps of something that had been killed by something or someone else. Nobody will force you to eat meat if you don't want to, but refrain from superimposing your delicate human sensibilities onto animals. They don't have them. |

| I'm quite happy here and Korean food is brilliant, but I do kind of miss the typical greasy American diner, especially for breakfast: eggs, bacon, rye toast, home fries, coffee and a cigarette. |

Miss mine too. I have nice glock 40/21 and 9mm Beretta.
I miss duck camp
I miss getting off work to go to duck camps
I miss deer season (BOW)
I miss diners and buying girlie supplies and aspirin at the supermarket
I miss 15 different kinds of apples
I miss grapes of different color
I miss sweet corn on the cob
I miss goofy steakhouses in every small town in Nebraska. Give me some meat is the main course.
What I don't miss is alot of things but I do get a bit nostalgic for a few things.
Went to Jamsil gun range and their guns are dirty and not well maintained. Crap safeties also! all blanks and no full metal jackets.
I like going to the gun range with MY own gun knowing it is clean and in good working order.
Also, miss shooting blue rock. (skeet for you la-de-da types)

I can understand missing some things, but I really don't understand how this is something to get nostalgiac about....
I get it that people get used to something's in childhood, but I've got to say I really don't understand the gun culture...How you can associate this with warm, fuzzy sentiment??
And before someone assumes I'm a wussy city boy used to sipping lattes and discussing foreign films in black turtlenecks. Let me say this.
You're right...but I've also lived and worked in outback stations. I've shot, killed, gutted and eaten animals before. I don't consider these times as kodak moments.

Pet Lover, are you still around? I was just wondering if vegan commercial dog food is available in Korea? I don't have a dog (or live in Korea anymore), but my Korean foster dog ate regular (bad) commercial food because I didn't know there were any alternatives on the market. My kitchen was basically fit to be condemned at the time, too. |

I buy Natural Balance Vegetarian formula at my local vet's clinic. It says vegetarian, but it's actually vegan. My dogs love it, too. I love how their breath doesn't stink after eating it...just smells like grains. I tried a piece. Not bad at all, though I'd prefer some salt.

Wow, that's great about the food -- I wish I'd known about it when I found my foster dog out on the roof. Your dogs are lucky.
Too bad your plans didn't work out -- I mean, you seemed pretty happy to be leaving. Sorry, I don't know about the job market in Korea these days, but I'm sure you'll find something good. Thanks for the info. |
