A rather BS way to win. The Australians certainly have more to complain about than the Koreans. Plus the Simunic affair. Let's see how they react.

I'm not even an Aussie and I feel a bit gutted.

We should take our exit gracefully and look forward to future tournaments. I personally can't wait for the Asia cup in 2007. Well played boys, bit of hard luck, but they have shown they are a team not to be taken lightly.

Yep, good game by Australia. I'm sure they'll take this loss better than the Koreans. The call was marginal at the end, but so was the red card given to Italy near the beginning of the game. In the end, I guess it was a fair result.

Kudos to Australia. Sucks the way they lost though. I am sure they will take it the right way though. Korea will have to be concerned now that Australia is moving to the Asian qualifying bracket. Things got a little tougher. Well done Oz, you have nothing to be ashamed of.

Well, I hope Italy get absolutely slaughtered in the next round, and this sees the end of this ref's WC 06.

Absolutely devastating.

It was pretty ridiculous. I used to not like the Azzuri. Now I HATE them. Such a cheap way to win. I hope Oz meets Italy in the Rugby World Cup.

well done is right. i was impressed with the lack of complaining by the Aussie's following the game. Keeping the heads up was pure class.

The Aussies had a great run and went out with dignity and pride. Are you watching Korea?

That was a really crappy penalty decision but that's what happens in football.

I like the way Hiddink went around all his players after the game to make sure they shook hands with the Italians and then paid tribute to their fans, who probably have the lonest journey home of any World Cup fans.

Four times the WC stadiums were filled with Australians. Johnny Warren was right.

Neil and the team can sit down and have a good cry about that foul, but the team had their chances. They didn't drag the Italian defenders to the flanks when attacking, just went down the guts and the Italian defense was superb, especially with only ten on. Soccer is wide awake in Oz now, and the country will be eager for this kind of sporting effort in Asia '07. Well done Socceroos. You took it on the chin. You didn't squeal like spoilt brats. You never took a dive. You did it in your own special home grown Aussie way. You did us proud.

It looked like Neill was trying to set up a rugby maul against the Azurri.
