Seeing as there's a thread debating why people are happy Korea lost to Switzerland, I thought I'd start a poll to see if that's actually a majority opinion.

Anyone who wants can then post explaining why they feel the way they do.

Possible reasons to be sad about it:

1. The party's over.
2. No more free beers.
3. I like Korea.
4. I like the Korean football team.
5. I always root for the underdog and I want to see some major upsets like in 2002.
6. I'm a diehard apologist so I automatically support Korea in everything always.
7. My s.o. is Korean and I'm sad for them.

Possible reasons to be glad about it:

1. The party's over. (It was keeping me awake!)
2. The Daehanmingook chant was annoying me.
3. I hate football.
4. I've had Korean nationalism up to here.
5. I'm bitter about the way I've been treated in this country.
6. I'm a hater so I automatically hate everything Korean always.
7. My s.o. is Korean and now I can laugh at them.
8. I'm Swiss.

Possible reasons not to give a hoot:

1. I couldn't care less about football.
2. It's not my team so who cares?
3. I'm not Korean so it's got nothing to do with me.
4. I can't decide whether I'm sad or glad.

How about, "The Koreans were incredibly racist towards other teams and are incredibly bad winners AND losers."

I wanted to support Korea, but their general attitude towards the entire tournament and towards their opponents made me sick.

I'm somewhere between not caring and being glad. I'm not any sort of a sports fan, so I don't give a ratzass who wins World Cup one way or another. But I do find all the hype a little grating, plus I'm pretty hardcore anti-nationalist, Korean or otherwise.

I would probably feel the same way if I were back in Canada and smug Canadians were going on about how they were gonna kick the Americans' butts at something.

I tend to agree with Natalia, but either way I don't really care. I was rooting for Switzerland because they're goalkeeper is hot. Hell, the whole team makes me wriggle.

To be honest, Privateer, the very last thing we need is another thread dealing with the matter, even though yours is probably the best. Ultimately I don't care. I'll support Korea because why not? I have a job I like, I'm renewing, I've had good experiences with Korea and Korean people, and I'm basically happy here for the forseeable. But the team played some godawful football and, aside from two memorable goals against Togo and avoiding defeat to France, the team has nothing to offer entertainment-wise and that's what it's all about.

I'm not sure how this will turn into a productive thread and I agree with SPINOZA.

Sad. Very sad. Crying or Very sad

I wanted more city-wide parties. And further skank-ification.

Actually I'm glad he did. Looking at the results it's obvious now that the vocal minority complaining about the country is exactly that, a minority, and that only their incessant complaining has made it look like the majority of the users on the board really wanted Korea to fail. A small group of people galavanting about and trying to look bigger than they are is exactly what Korean netizens are, so it's a safe bet to say that were any of them to have been born here in Korea they would be the ones spending their days in the PC Bang fishing for isolated examples, posting them on their anti-ES Daum cafes and trying to tie them into their already-fixed beliefs that Japan/the US/Switzerland/Chinese/foreigners are evil and out to corrupt their women and who knows what else.

And yes, I miss skanked-out K-chix pix already. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Let's try to get the K-league a bit more competitive and maybe we can have regional battles over who has the sexiest 응원복, girls from Suwon or Busan or wherever else.

Only Busan, Mith.

Really, come on.

But I am liking the numbers as well. In fact, I call for a drop of anonymity. I for one am sad, I love the hype, hate the trite(but it's hardly harmful in any event.), and I like to keep sporting events and nationalism in perspective. It sucks here, it sucks there: gosh dang it--it sucks everywhere(and lurks everywhere as well...).

Dae-Han-(with a bit of dissent and good cheer[and hoping for more Eung-Weon-Bok])-Min-Guk!

I'm a bit sad because I think that the Korean team could've done a lot better than they did. To be honest with you, I expected to see them advance at least one more step further. But the Korean team's performance on the field was really bad... and they got exactly what they deserved.

Better luck next time!

I'm more pro-Korea since I've been gone than when I was in Korea itself. I'm thinking it's because I don't have to see the ugly side of it all.

Sad: definitely sad. I always enjoyed watching them play, since the 2002 cup.

Only against England would I not have been cheering for them - and even then I would have been hoping for a great show.
