Or fall asleep to?
You're not a soccer fan and you're watching the WC. You've more chance of converting Osama Bin Ladin to Christianity than getting us in front of a TV set with meathead US sports on it.
why do you call it football when the foot barely touches the ball? |

Your time is coming, Spinoza. You know it, and I know it.
It might be Portugal. If not, it will definately be Brazil.
In a matter of a week, I'll be making fun of your team.
You can count on it, my little English friend. |

| Doesn't matter a jot to me if England don't win the WC. No-one seriously expects them too because there are 5 or 6 better sides in the world than England, but hopes beyond reason and likelihood are what makes soccer great - Greeks didn't think they were gonna even qualify from their Euro 2004 group, let alone win it! How the heck did Germany get to the final in 2002? They were shlt! How the fook did Porto win the Champions League in 2004? They couldn't even string 4 passes together! The unknown, the incredible, is what separates soccer from inferior sports. |

I don't think anyone in England has ever expected our team to win the World Cup. All we ever do is carry hope, we do not tell people it is our right to win, I think you'll find the Italians do enough of that.
If England were to get to the semi finals I think we could call that a successfull campaign. |

Even though they are my team and I love them dearly, I have to add Liverpool's champions league success in 2005 to your list... |

Yes, she is spending my money.
And I am surly and drunk.
But it's nothing personal, you English yobs.
In fact, any time you want to come to Louisiana and eat some oysters, crawfish, and alligator, then let me know. My arms are always open, and I love visitors.
God bless you, boys.
My mom is Scottish. And I have a lot of family who are also English
Nothing personal. I just like making fun of you. |

Like j69, been there, done that (well, not decorate the state building decoration) and enjoyed my stay.
And like j69, I'd like us to go forward but givern our performance so far logically expect Germany to win.
Mind you, I'm gonna get up and watch the Spaniards cream the French .... |

Europe will not win. Germany will lose to Argentina. The English yobs will lose to Brazil. It will be a brown boy final. Count on it. |

*adds Tiger's suggestion - Liverpool 3-3 Milan (Liverpool win on pens) to list - rightly so*
Forgot to mention I'll win 300,000 Won if Brazil win. Lucky me got Brazil in the WC sweep at work. I'm very torn. If either win I'll jump for joy and, admitedly, if neither win I'll be inconsolable. Then...THEN...Otis, you'll be able really get at me. |

I see Posh spice was looking a bit "weathered" in the stands. Too much lying on the beach in Ibiza?
And did she forgive him for his "off the field" scoring? Poor woman. |

As usual, England have delivered wretched football while their oafish cheerleaders in the media continue trying to con us that they have the pedigree of World Champions. The same tired old chestnuts are proffered at the press conferences every time England, composed of premiership players earning thrice the cash of players from other continents who are more talented, sends us to sleep with its ugly volleyball demonstrations. They tell us England are about to unload their awesome latent talent onto the footballing world at any moment and the rest of the world had better watch out. After that moment has passed, we are told the players are still acclimatising, regaining match fitness, getting used to the WC ball (insert feeble, cliched excuse here) etc. There was an interesting variation recently. Paul Robinson claimed the "dry pitches" were preventing England from treating us to their art football. We dumb sap followers of international soccer. Why do we fail to grasp something so obvious?
I blame the players and media equally for perpetuating this tired and embarassing scam. It's as if each England player in the squad in Germany is briefed to tediously remind us numbskulls about the doormant terror lurking in Rooney's boots and that other piece of delusional propaganda about Beckham being the best exponant of free kicks in the world.
I have a copy of Four Two Four in front of me with a lead article from the England team stating confidently how "We can beat Brazil."
Brazil has more potent attacking talent skill in its defensive line than the entire England team could dream of for chrissakes. Cafu can do ball tricks 'Our Wayne' can only imagine. And yet England still have the nerve, the kind of uber Chuptaz usually typical of fraudsters of the mould of Kenneth Lay, to continue producing these statments of desperate denial.
I forsee penalty kicks for England against Portugal next, so I suppose at least we will at least get a chance to savour England's dead ball expertise again. |

| I don't think that's accurate, Gladiator. English Press and fans alike are either totally over-optimistic and flattering (annoyingly so), or totally pesimistic and slam the side...with not a great deal in between. There is balance. |

| Brazil look weak. Fact. I think any of the quarter final teams would have a good chance of beating them, apart from Ukraine. |
