For the next several months, I will be teaching reading comprehension. I must say, this is my most favorite subject. Teaching reading comprehension gives a teacher the freedom one needs to tailor the class according to the students level. You can suppliment the lesson with inference and rhetorical questions, essay writing, vocabulary comprehension, grammar structure, and so on. Admittingly, it is rough at first (with the amount of work you have to do), but once you begin to recycle the books and lessons, man, it's so rewarding.
What is your flavor and why? It's amazing how these specific areas in the English language are all interlinked.

I always thought that parts of speech were things like nouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, etc. |

No poll option for conversations?
(I don't get it. Is it because you work with massive class sizes?)
I like teaching conversations, though love most teaching basic question-answer forms and numbers to near beginners. It's so interactive, challenging and fun for all! |

I like teaching vocab, seeing the kids get their tongue around difficult words and teaching them correct pronounciation. |

What about listening?
I love thinking up creative listening ideas for my students. |

OOps. I forgot that one. Sorry. To answer you question, yes. Most of the classes I teach have 18 or more students (I work in an elementary school). |

I love teaching phonics/ early literacy skills because it is SO amazing to see the progress that the kids make. To go from not knowing a single consonant and vowel sound to being able to spell and read is an awesome thing to see(especially when it takes place under six months). Not only is it rewarding for me, but I love seeing the looks on the kid's faces when they sound out words and start reading slightly more complex sentences. |

What she said. And, I also like teaching creative writing-type exercises. Some of these kids have incredible imaginations and it's fun to watch them develop stories. |

Well do it! You are the teacher, don't forget that.
I simply unilaterally instituted a diary homework program (one Canadian sticker/stamp per entry, ten stamps equals chocolate or chicken or pizza party (as soon as everyone has ten, the party happens, the students with the most stickers get that much more treats then). 80% accuracy is expected, not 100%. I don't nitpick with "becuas" or "freind" but seek out substantive problems with meaning and basic grammar structure (subject verb object needed, "park walk we go" needs changing).
Take FIVE to ten minutes of classtime to review their homework, less if there's time before and after class.
Works like a charm. Their confidence and basic skills are growing after just a month of doing it. Wish I'd done it years ago with classes. |

I specialize in essay writing. That is what I enjoy, and I found a job where a curriculum would be created so I could teach nothing but essay writing. I happen to be a fantastic essayist, so it just comes easily for me. |
