The best beer ever you say, well here's my two cents;

It was a cold, dark, rainy night. The year was 1999, and I was on a school trip. At night we found ourselves, wandering around in the rain, in pocession of one fake ID and a tidy sum of money pooled together. Now because we couldn't find any bottlestores the game plan was; the most pubersiced, pimple free one of us would go into a bar and in his deepest voice would buy a mother-load of beer, which he would then bring outside.

As fool proof as this plan seemed to our angsty teenage minds, the wheels started to come off. We ended up walking around in the rain for hours, getting soaked, and turned down by every bar in town. Which is fair enough, just picture an obviously underage, soaked, teenager entering a bar trying to buy beer over the counter to take out.

Somehow we finally got lucky, one upper class bar served us. The problem was our grand vision was to buy 6-10 beers each, but sadly we never took into account how expensive bars are.

So anyway, we ended up with about 3/4 of a bottle each. After the ordeal of buying it, that, my friend, was the sweet nectar of god, or at least thats what we kept telling each other. Wanting to save face and not feel like the loosers (we obviously were) after wasting so much time and money, everyone commented that it was the best tasting beer ever.

Ah, yes. The underaged beer-buying experience. Unfortunately, I have always looked younger than I actually was. Even now. I'm 40 and was i.d.ed (spelling police please) just last year for buying lottery tickets. Must have been the haircut I had just gotten. I digress. I was victorious on only a few occasions, but I was never able to enjoy an underaged beer drinking experience in a bar. Shocked Crying or Very sad

There was a point in connection with this thread. My first time in the bar, when I was finally of age, I sat in the dark corner of the bar with my buds. Embarassed (friends, not Budweiser). I paid for my first beer with what I thought was a 2-dollar bill. (Yeah, that long ago.) I was also a penniless 18 year-old kid. When I went to pay for my next beer I realized that I had paid $20 (and not $2) for my first bar beer. I had only started with a little more than $20 and now my first bar experience was going to come to a screeching embarassing halt. And it did. We pleaded with the waitress to no avail. Embarassed Crying or Very sad

My first bar beer was interesting, but not the best.

Sitting on a deck overlooking the Mekong River drinking ice cold Beerlao. The best darn beer I've ever tasted.

That's mine too. Although a close second is sitting outside the Bulldog Cafe in Amsterdam, drinking a pint of Heineken (it's nowhere near as good anywhere else), watching people around the red light district.
