I have what I think is a standard EPIK contract which states that overtime is equal to that of Korean teachers, but gives no solid numbers. What do most of you EPIK folk get for overtime pay?
My supervisor told me that he gets (he has 17 years experience) 25,000 won for extra classes between 9-5 Mon-Fri but after that, it's 7,000 won per hour. Since the overtime I will be doing next weekend will be 15,000 won per hour, he told me that I'm going to make double what I should be getting.
I asked him why it was so low (7,000 won) and why anyone bothers doing it and he said that anyone who does overtime outside of those hours gets promotion points. So that's all fine and good for Korean teachers...less pay but increased chances of getting a promotion...however applying the same pay scale to foreigners to whom promotion points are useless means that we simply get the short end of the stick. |

I am NOT with EPIK but I am in a public school and I get 20,000 won for each 40 minute class above my weekly 22.
I believe that EPIK teachers get paid on a similar scale. |

| I've successfully gotten 30,000/hour for anything over 22 hours. |

I am on EPIK.
For me it has depended on what the school's going rate is.
The first middle school I was at paid 25000 for 45 minutes
.
The second paid 20000, but I questioned that because of the 25 I had been getting at my previous school. I didn't kick up a stink, but they decided to pay me 25000 then.
My present school pays me 25000 as well. |

| Sounds like someone is pocketing your extra pay there. If you're 'supposed to' be making only 7000 won an hour, why are you getting twice as much, but not your real overtime pay? Doesn't make alot of sense. Ask someone who is above your supervisor, or better yet take a look at your contract and insist that they stick to the overtime conditions written there. |

Don't accept less than 20,000
Choose a contract that gives the basics.
over 2million
20,000 overtime
Free accomodation within walking distance of the school
Pre-paid return airfare
Cost of visa-run if needed - airfares and accomodation
no more than 3.5% tax
50% medical insurance
1 months severance pay
get it all up front before leaving and don't leave home without it! |

| So most people seem to be getting 20-25 K per extra class, but how would that be applied to attending meetings, judging contests and interviewing applicants? Should those activities be 20 - 25 K per hour? |
