I am hopefully trying to buy some "lock picking tools" - similar to what a "locksmith" would use to open door locks, etc etc - just to open locks in general - if the key is absent...

anyone with some knowledge - possibly know what kind of store - or where in seoul would I go to purchase these "locksmith" tools and what would I have to ask for?

I was thinking perhaps it would be those stores that sell like police uniforms etc (around Namdaemun markets) or perhaps those little stores that sell "seals" etc - but what shop sells the "lock-picking tools" - and what do I ask for when I go there?

I can't help but to wonder why you would ask such a question.

Planning a bit of B & E?

Please do clarify. I'm sure your compadres would be interested in an explanation.

I don't know why, but I get the feeling that "Yesterday" may be able to help you out with your little problem.

I think in the US most states allow you to own but not carry these tools Confused . Maybe "Yesterday" asks because lock-picking is quite the hobby within the geek community, anyways you can fin instructions on how to make them on the MIT lockpick guide

You wouldn't happen to be the guy that is breaking into women's apartments in Itaewon and stealing their underwear now would you?

Really are you kidding me? This is rediculous, not to metion getting all these people to be accessories to your crime.

Find a better hobby.

Instead of getting lock-picking tools, why not just have a bunch of extra keys made?

Your avatar suits you. You seem to be asking for trouble. I can't see why you would need lockpicks except for an illegal use....reconsider.

I second this suggestion. It's a no brainer. I can't quite understand why the OP didn't comment on this possibility.

Then get a second key cut. Confused

I can vouch for Yesterday. He's been a board member for a few years. What's wrong with the request.

Possible motives:

1. Perhaps he's helping his director kick out a dead-beat employee. It's common for teachers to camp out in their apartments when they've been fired or ended their contracts.
2. One of his staff members is locked in their apartment contemplating suicide and he wants to intervene.
3. Perhaps his students get locked out of their homes frequently.
4. Perhaps he's locked himself out.
5. Perhaps some sort of illegal activity.

It's a decent request but I'd personally to talk to building security or landlord to find an extra set of keys. If it's a villa-type apartment, you can call lock-smiths to come and open doors for a fee. Go to one of those key shacks on the street, or Home Plus, for example and get a number of a guy. They usually have 24/7 service.

I wouldn't worry too much about the request...

I find it hard to believe that someone who doesn't know how to find the tools would be able to use them anyway.

There are easier (and faster) ways to get a door open.

They open them for free? Why? Just all round good blokes, or are they hoping you will pay for their services some other time?

Indeed... lockpicking is for losers with too much time on their hands.
