I just saw a wonderful news report on Arirang tv. It said that korean cheering culture for football is the envy of the world.

That other countries try to emulate the korean cheering style. That other nations rejoiced with korea when the korean national team scored goals. That korean cheering culture is superior because its " enthusiastic and voluntary.' A korean sociology professor came up with that one.

They showed koreans cheering, and picking up trash. They had the obligatory snippets of foreigners praising Korean cheering.

They went on to say that foreigners even came on vacation to korea for this world cup just to experience the best cheering style in the world.

" Koreans have the best football cheering culture, just another reason to ride the korean wave"

They didnt mention the crying, whining, depression, complaining, death threats, email bombs, or cancelled swiss honeymoons.

For those of you who wondered why the hatred towards the korean national team? THIS IS WHY!

How do the kyopos who read that tripe for Arirang TV look at themselves in the mirror?

Do Koreans have cheers other than the dae~hanminguk one?

How can you distinguish one country's cheers from another's when you're watching a game? Sorry, I'm a soccer noob.

Arirang TV would make the old Pravda look credible.

Oh well, I guess it's mostly preaching to the choir anyway.

I figure if the Korean wave of cheering does take over the world we probably won't need to be told - it'll be self-evident.

Beyond ridiculous!

If those kyopos who work with Arirang had any souls, they would tell them not put tripe like this on.

Does anyone actually watch Arirang anyway?

They aren't going to like this one jot but the practice of staying behind to pick up trash after the game was started by Japanese fans in the 1998 world cup.

Arirang is ridiculous. Its on in thailand, PI, cambodia. A propaganda machine. Yet Korea fights tooth and nail not to allow foreign channels into korea.

But do they do the wave? The only reason I'd ever go to a game is to do the wave. What about tailgating? Do the fans tailgate? Yet another reason for me to go (I need alternative reasons to attend a game, as I'm not into sports...). Are hot dogs and beer served at any of the games? How about guys running around with their shirts off, with big letters painted on their torso to spell their team's name out?

They don't tailgate and rarely do waves, but there's reasonably priced beer aplenty and your choice of squid crisps or ramyon at all K-league matches.

no hot dogs= no go (I need a food incentive, and squid, no matter how well it's been buttered or grilled, ain't cuttin' it for me Wink )

Maybe I'll go to a game sometime and set up my own hot dog stand. I wonder if I'd get arrested or shooed away by security~

The National College of Media is Seoul has the shortest journalism course of any college in the world. It lasts for about 5 minutes.

In that time the professor simply tells the would-be journos that only one story really matters and thats the one where Korea looks good compared to other countries and where people of other countries praise something Korean. Keep printing and televising those stories and you'll have lifelong success in the media.

Arirang is garbage anyway. Not a single show on Arirang is worth watching. There was the Contenders, that was pretty good but thats all. As far as Korean cheering, it has its good and bad points but its nowhere near the best in the world. Theres someone on this board who admitted to working for Arirang. Maybe if the search function wasnt a big piece of shit it would be possible to find that person.

Does it also teach that no matter what the tone (lighthearted, frivolous, serious, breaking news, accident, celebrity) of the story, you must speak as though Seoul is under attack from China, Japan, North Korea, and the U.S. at the same time and someone is trying to break off a broomstick in your rectum?
