I'd say tread very carefully. As someone said, if she happened to go through with it, you could be blamed for it. At the same time, it sounds like you want to do something to help her.
It puts you in a really tough situation. |

If she is seeing a therapist she must have been referred somehow, either by her doctor, family or even herself. This is good news.
Does the therapist have someone to cover them off while they are away, if so she should see that person ASAP.
Is she taking any medications?
Does she have any friends or family she feels comfortable sharing with?
One suggestion is to have her complete a No Suicide Contract with you either verbally or in writing. After personal experience and friends who have worked the crisis line you use ANYTHING, like her mother and how much she would miss her and so on. I have a friend who used a woman's canary.
Hope this helps. |

I had a student (college) who suffered from depression. So, I offered to be her friend (she had no friends at school). How? I listening to her life, her future dreams, and even her struggles. She was quite an usual person. I liked her very much.
But, I made a mistake. I moved from Korea to Japan this March. So, I could not help her. This June, she killed herself. It was quite emotional time for me. Because I was in Japan, I could not go to her funeral.
My advice: suicidal people need help. And it takes more than 1 person. I should have talked to her sister, the school. Someone else. Although I did not think she was suicidal, I should have been more cautious.
Ask about her family. Does she have a sister or brother that maybe could help you? Find her home phone from the school records. Ask a fellow Korean teacher to assist you.
Better to be safe than sorry.
I wish that I had been...... |
