I think he was joking. If I made a list of the top ten soulless people I've known, nine of them would be various Christians, and the tenth is a kickass guitar player.

Like this: You Satori are a soulless bastard. You have no soul. Where there should be a soul, there is nothing but a hole the size of a mole.

But:

a. If you thought I was serious, it seems to me you have misgivings in your lack of faith...hmmm....

b. If you are so secular, why care about whether or not you have a soul?

c. Who do you think I am, 5pigeons? I was kidding.

Well I was responding both to you and hermes.trismegistus, you I wasn't sure about, but I'm pretty sure hermes.trismegistus is not joking.

Second, I was thinking soulless in the broader sense of "soulful" not the religious sense of "I have a soul"... Laughing

That test was totally wack...

On a good day, I oscillate between hardcore atheism and gnostic christian anarchism with tendancies towards sufism. It's kind of a mood swing thing, you see; but the test said:

1. Hinduism (100%)
2. Mahayana Buddhism (99%)
3. Unitarian Universalism (88%)
4. Theravada Buddhism (87%)
5. Liberal Quakers (83%)

WTF??? They just don't know me at all! This must be some kind of conspiracy.

The political compass test was way more accurate:

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -6.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.72

Apparently, I'm a anarcho-syndicalist; slightly more hardcore than Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. That sounds about right!

When I read that I laugh so hard I almost pee'd my pants. Haven't laughed that hard since reading the "freakiest waygook" thread.

Dude, when it all goes down, I'll be by your side; It's just the whole "money = power" vibe you're giving off is playing havoc with my chakras Wink Maybe you can work on that a bit.

Peace

My religion is football. My church is Wembley. My pues are the terraces. My vicar is David Beckham. My bread and water is lucozade and oranges. My bible is the FA handbook.

You'd be correct. I've never enjoyed the company of anyone who identified as a secular humanist - which has a striking similarity to logical positivism and fundamentalist materialisms of various persuasions.

Not to say at some point that disparity won't be remedied, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it coming any time soon. It'd take a truly fascinating individual for me to over-look such an ideologic persuasion.

So, to repeat:

hermes.trismegistus wrote:

I haven't seen obvious examples of secular humanism expressed by Satori. But then perhaps I just missed the trappings of materialism in comments...

I didn't equate anyone as a secular humanist or logical positivist. I merely iterated my experience with others of similar persuasions.

Namaste.

The options given did not adequately represent Gaudiya Vaishnavism or the personalist tradition of Vedic culture (identifying "Hinduism" only with impersonal beliefs...)

Therefore, I came out looking like an old rabbi (though I'm not Jewish...)

Try clicking on the links that offer more information. You could find out which kind of Neo-Pagan is most suitable for you. Some of the questions are -How shall I put it?- interesting.
e.g.
A: Does your Magick require animal sacrifice?
B: Uh, no.
A: Then "ancient Egyptian" is starting to look like your style.

Who knows? Maybe the Norse gods are your destiny. Think about it. You could be feasting on beer and roast pig in Valhalla's Hall of Heroes with Valkyrie babes instead of

I've been giving it some thought*, Troll_Bait, and I think the best plan would be to combine the best aspects of:

(Are there any negative aspects?)

with

(and possibly , just for good measure)

to create a 'Neo-Pagan' religion that we can both enjoy!

(*No reasonable thought, of course, but that has never hindered me before.)

Yes, as I said, I haven't noticed those materialist trappings in your comments, so I wondered about the accuracy about those results.

Namaste.
