xxxxx LANGUAGE SCHOOL

1. Duration of contract : 1 year ( July 21st, 2006 - July 20th, 2007 )
Extension is possible if the two parties agree.

2. Housing : Instructor will reside in a basically furnished studio. Furnishings
provided by the employer include a single bed, pillow, refrigerator, washing
machine, TV, telephone, gas range, kitchen table and chair, dishes, air
conditioner dresser and so on.
Selection of the studio will be made by the employer. The employer will provide
the same studio as he/she uses to the instructor during the contract period if
there were some renting problems. The studio is located approximately within?30
minutes' walking distance from school.

3. Salary
Basic Salary : 2.3 million won a month. 25,000,000 won a year.

A) The instructor will work from 4:30 p.m to 8;30 p.m from Monday through
Friday (from 2:20 p.m to 6:00 p.m on Saturday )


B) If the instructor teaches more than 24 hours a week he/she will be paid
25,000 won for each additional teaching hour ( one teaching hour is 60 minutes
).

C) The instructor will be expected to teach English as a foreign language to
Korean students of various ages at the school. Curriculum will include English
grammar, spelling, reading, speaking and writing with a special emphasis on
conversation.

4. Severance Payment
If the instructor completes on year contract successfully he/she will be given
the month equivalent to one month basic salary (2.3 million won) as retirement
pay.

5. Duties of instructor
A) The instructor always accepts an complies with the instructions related to
the teaching and the school won rules and Korean law.

B) The instructor tries to be respected as a good teacher by the students.

6. Vacation Time
A) General Korean holidays : The instructor will be paid for approximately 14
holidays a year.

B) A week paid vacation : 4 days summer and 1-day on the last day of December. 1 day before or after Chusuk and Lunar New Year's day.

7. Medical Insurance
Korean National Health Insurance will be provided if the instructor agrees.
The coverage will be in accordance with the Insurance companies.
Employer pays 50%, Employee pays 50%.

8. Taxes : All employee in Korea must pay their taxes.

9. Transportation to Korea
A) The cost of a one way , economic class ticket to Korea will be reimbursed to
the instructor when he/she arrives in Daegu.

B) If the instructor completes one year contract he/she will be given the return
ticket or the airfare( economic class ) to his/her country.

change to each additional class(OT rate is decent) Working 6 days a week....but its only 4 hours a day....not bad.

10 days is pretty standard...negotiate this

No mention of pension

Comments:

Your regular pay of 2.3 million per month is 27.6 million for the year. Math error or typo but it should be fixed.

You should have a clause that holidays and vacation days will be counted as if they had been worked when computing overtime. If they pay overtime "when the instructor teaches more than 24 hours a week" you will pay for your own holidays and vacations with unpaid overtime. This happens to many teachers who never even notice.


For me, living 30 minutes from the school is too far. I hate the time and expense of commuting. A 10 minute walk is enough. Your personal choice here.


There seems to be a lot of bad English. I would rewrite the contract to clean it up.
