Does anyone know if this is going to affect Skype and Googletalk PC to PC or just internet to land line calls?

Thanks for bring this to our attention. There are lots of unanswered questions.

1) When does this start?

2) Which VOIP services will be blocked?

If anyone uses VOIP, please let us know whether it works or not. Currently I'm using Inphonex, but I also have Gizmo Project.

You have to read all the way

"The block will not affect messenger or chat programs, officials said"

This just affects land to land (via internet) or internet to land (usa to korea).

Basically they are blocking the gateway servers that switch between land line services and the internet.

If you make calls - PC (in korea) to land (back home) you will be fine.
If your folks make calls - land (home) to PC (KOREA) they will be fine.
If they make calls - land to land via a VOIP company, then you will be blocked.

A couple of questions need to be asked:

1. How does this benefit any company?

2. How do these calls (above quote) hurt any company?

VOIP sucks up a lot of bandwidth, clogging networks. If your company is part of the internet (and all of the larger ones are) your network performance can suffer as the result of your routers and switches being used to tanfer the voice data across the world.
