Just moved to Daegu and I'd love to join a gym, but I haven't really seen any around. Are they common? And where does the price range usually fall? I'm in Buk-gu, Dong-Chun-Dong if anyone knows of any place specific in the area...

I'd love to meet other foreigners in the area, so if any other Daegu-ites would like to meet up sometime, PM me.

There is a new-ish health club to the right of Carrefours in Dongchon Dong.
Generally prices vary between 30,000-100,000won per month depending on the facilites. You should just browse around and decide if the price is worth what you see.
Also, most saunas have health clubs attached. You can recognize saunas from the universal symbol that depicts a semi circle with 3 steam vapors rising up from it.

Dongchon is quite far from me and i don't know of anyone living out there, but if you want to meet foreigners, the best place would be COMMUNE'S bar downtown.
There are also a few other hangouts. PM me if you need directions.

Chilgok is not Daegu. Damn these recruiters for saying that it is because it's a hamlet. Chilgok is about 40-45 minutes from downtown Daegu by bus and about 75 minutes from where the OP lives...just for your info.

Actually, to the best of my knowledge, Dong-Chun-Dong is in Chilgok. My geography is still horrific as well, but Chilgok is at least what I tell the taxi drivers when homeward bound. But Eye is right, Matilda; we're waaay up in the Northern Boonies. Downtown's reachable by bus in a little over an hour and by taxi in about 30 minutes. Definitely keep in touch when you get here, though. I'd be happy to show you what little I know of the place.

Eye: where exactly is the Carrefour here? I've found a Home Plus, but that's it as far as big Western style stores go.

Sorry wheek, i was thinking you meant Dongchon Dong in Daegu since you mentioned you were in Buk-Gu. Dongchon Daegu is very far from Chilgok.

Sorry, i can't help you with a solid gym recommendation but if you look for the symbol i mentioned (the semi circle with 3 vertical vapors rising), you will score a public bath/sauna. They usually have health clubs.

In Hangeul, health club is 헬스 클럽
