|
|
I'm sure I've seen this topic before, but the search function isn't helping me at all, so...
Obviously I should have one of those little plastic food-catcher things in my sink. Obviously my apartment didn't come with one, and I didn't bother to buy one as I very rarely cook and nothing much except water goes down my drain anyway. Recently, though, it's got blocked and all my best efforts with drain cleaners haven't done anything. So does anyone know how to clear it out, short of having to call in a plumber? |

A step-by-step guide to clearning your sink drain:
1. Go to your local mom and pop shop and buy a plunger
2. Change into some old clothes
3. roll up your sleeves and/or put rubber gloves on
4. remove anything within reach that you do not want yucky gross water spatted on
5. lift plunger and cover the top of the drain with it
6. push the plunger down with all your might, then release it
7. stand back as you release it or you might get yucky gross water all over you
8. repeat steps 5-7 several times
9. run some water and see if the drain is clear
10. if drain still blocked, repeat steps 5-9. Use more force
11. if drain now run well, clean your plunger
12. wash rubber gloves if you have them on. wash your hands and or face if you've got some yucky gross water on it
13. change your clothes. make a cup of tea |

| And then go out and fork over W1,000 for the drain trap so this doesn't happen again. |

happened to me last week, forgot to put a food catcher in and i just so happened to have a major cook-a-thon at the time. the sink clogged up and i thought it'd never de-clog. i took a chopstick and jammed it into the drain as far as it would go and moved it around to loosen up/push down as much food as possible. also, check to see if there are any objects that shouldn't be in there... sounds obvious, i know, but every once in a while something may fall in, like a bottle cap, that you may not notice until it clogs right up.
the sink was still full at this point and i poured in a whole bottle of plumbing liquid... forget the name, started with a "p" and left that over night, thinking it'd never work. the water went down slightly, the next day i added two more whole bottles. make sure when you add this you don't run the water right away- the bottle says to take a half hour, i waited even longer.
after that, i was good to go. i say just keep adding more bottles if it doesn't work. the liquid is pretty strong and will eventually break all of the food down, unless, like i said, you have some strange object in it, which in that case, a plunger will be your new friend. |

I would kill for a garbage disposal. Has anyone ever seen one in this country?
I explained the concept to some older students, and they were shocked at how dangerous it seems. |

You really need a plunger in this country.
You'll probably need it for your toilet at some time unless you put your used TP in a can by the toilet........disgusting.
Your kitchen sink will need it if you don't use the catcher-thing. I've seen those in every hardware store for 1000won BTW.
My bathroom floor drains get blocked now and then.
Get a plunger!! |
