I actually tried it 2 weeks ago. I thought the little girl would get a kick out of it, so I bought a 600mL bottle of Diet Coke and a pack of sour apple-flavored Mentos.

The Coke came out of the bottle, but nowhere near as explosively as in that video. It was quite the disappointment. Mixing baking soda and vinnegar would have been more exciting.

What gives? Is it because I used a flavor other than regular Mentos (which I don't think one can even purchase in Korea)?

Maybe it was the delivery of the Mentos into the bottle of Diet Coke. I've seen another video where the whole package of Mentos was unwrapped and strung with a thread. Just slip the entire string of Mentos into the Coke and watch the waterworks!

Or maybe it's the flavor.

It has to all go in at once, and the size of the hole in the bottle affects how powerfully the crap will shoot out.

No, I haven't done it, but I am plotting to in the future.

I saw this on TV and I am going to try and do it when I get back to Canada this summer. I think it was on Good Morning America or something like that. I think my neice and nephews will love it.

Why is this in the Korean General Discussion forum?

Seriously, don't be so lazy and scroll down a bit and put it in the off-topic section.

I did the vinegar and baking soda thing once with a group of kindies. Scared the crap out of one kid. He screamed and cried and then had to be taken out of the room by my helper.

Agree with CC this should be in the off-topic forum

It is pretty interesting though. I've eaten Mentos with Coke. Good thing no one shook me up and threw me I guess.

I might try it just to see if it works.

Interesting timing for this thread!! The fire danger is too high in Alaska right now, so we did something similar to this today instead of lighting off fireworks.

We drilled a small hole in the cap, and rigged some mentos on a piece of wire, then dropped 'em in, causing a fountian of coke almost 2 stories high. Not quite as cool as fireworks, but still very cool. Laughing
