I was planning on going to Thailand but am on a waitlist for tickets to there. So I reserved a ticket for Vietnam instead, but now see that there is a visa procedure to go through (apparently before going there). Has anyone here made the trip? Did you have to visit the Vietnamese Embassy in Jongno to get it? I read that a Vietnamese travel agency can do it more easily? Can anyone confirm this? I hope someone can help.... I'm Canadian by the way, but I don't think that makes much a a difference in this case. Help me out please. |

No invite necessary. I got my visa in Bangkok same day (in 2003). About 70 USD. Dropped off in the morning, had it by about 2:00 in the afternoon. Just a guess, travel agents should have no problem doing this for you.
Vietnam is really fascinating. You won't regret it. Summer time is really, really sweaty.
The Vietnamese girls, I think, are the prettiest and sweetest in all of Asia. But beware, you are forbidden from having VN nationals in your hotel room, and the hotel staff will turn you in if they see you.
Hanoi was organized insanity, Ha Long Bay is amazing. You'll find some amazing deals on clothes in Hoi An and I didn't get to the south, but I'm sure it is great, too.
If you've been in Korea for a while, you may want to ask around for some w33d. It was pretty much everywhere.
Enjoy your trip! |

You CAN NOT get your VISA in one day in Seoul. Take your passport to Vietnam Airlines near city hall and they will do it. Takes about 8 days and costs about 45,000 won. I did it last summer. |

Why's that? Where did you get this information?
Update:I found the link you might have used. Haven't read anywhere else about that though. |

Can't remember where I heard this, maybe Lonely Planet. Why? Dunno, but remember, it is a communist country and they have one or two ridiculous rules. |

I think only in some hotels will they not allow overnight guests, but before midnight no problem. Since they tend to be cheap, if necessary you could rent a room for the guest and sleep together anyway. Or find another hotel that doesn't have the silly rule.
Many hotels also lock the doors at midnight, and you got to wake them up to be allowed in afterwards |
