If you provide a link I'd like to hear some, Khyber.
I have my homemade music online at places like that and myspace or cdfuse / museeks and the like (http://keneckert.com/banjofish), but I usually don't submit my music to peer judgment like that. For one, I think it would be less fun for me to make music if I'm hearing negative comments in my head. I don't pretend that I'll ever get rich doing it.
I also think you should take such criticism with a grain of salt. Many of the people who do these reviews are not professionals, and if it isn't their favorite band's sound they don't like it. Others are "semi-professional or professional musicians", which often should be rephrased "bitter, aging musicians who were never signed and who build themselves up by knocking others down". These are the same people who provide terrible service in pro music stores. Actual A&R reviewers probably don't bother with ameteur websites, although there might be exceptions such as Taxi.

Hmmm sounds bad. The electronic scene is a bit more genuine in that regard. I'm part of a website where people upload there tracks, get and give crits. It gets HEAPS of traffic and people are making excellent music. If I get a crit that I think is too harsh, I can easily go and check out the persons music to see if they are walking the walk. If they sound excellent, I better listen to them even if it grates me the wrong way. There are a couple of prize wankers on the site who critique as if they are gods gift to music, oddly enough they don't upload a lot. Conversely the guys who are making the primo sounds and uploading a lot all tend to be very humble and give great helpful reviews... |
How often do you get trash thrown at your Arabesque? Or was that Arabique? Magestique, in my humble opinion. I could do that with about 20 years of tinkering. You got any new stuff? |
I got nice comments about that. It was my first effort ever, and well, I think I just stumbled on a good thing, cause I have struggled to reproduce anything that satisfying sinse. But I've moved strictly into house music now, which is maybe more difficult, or not, who knows...
Arabica I think it was. Yeah, god, long ago dude. I feel like I've been to hell and back sinse then. I have nothing new that I'm particularly proud of, but the one I'm working on right now feels good. Will give you a peak if you like when it's done, maybe two weeks at most... |
Looking forward to that 'peak', fella. haha. St Paul's church in Pulteney St now has Saturday nights exclusively dedicated to House since their last Christmas party. House ... it's in the... |

Well done! I enjoyed the second song more than the first, but only because I'm not a big fan of that genre.
Do (did, rather) you listen to much XTC? I can hear some of that in there...
Good on you for posting that, khyber. |

here is my EPK:
http://www.sonicbids.com/epk/epk.asp?epk_id=53284
that has one other song. And my last one "Tiger (for my cougar)" will be uploaded tonight, so check later.
I actually need a bit of help from the folks here..if you could. I need suggestions as to which of the three songs should go into the review next.

XTC? No. Should I have?
I got in contact with the guy who gave me a review and complained that i was "too obviously influeced" and "derivative" of the Beach Boys. That was a real surprise.
Does anyone else here that?
ken..I'll give you feed back when i get home (no sound on my work speaker). I'll send the PM and I'll make it a goodun! |

I liked all three of the songs that you posted. Rheumatoid Arthritis kind of sounded like something off of "Mutations"-- like "Cancelled Check". I liked it. I also thought the 3 songs showed some versatility. Monsoon made me think of a few different artists. Roughly, for me, it was something Chris Issac/ Roy Orbison/ Leonard Cohenish. I was really impressed with the production quality. Very impressive. I'm looking forward to the newest edition.

wow..thanks for the kind words lab.
I have to remember things like this when I read these reviews by quasi angsty try-to-harders.
I don't personalyl think there is much in the way of pop in my stuff and I can completely understand if people find it hard to digest..not too much in the way of hooks and things...
I'm doing some recording with my mate over the next month (I HOPE!). I'm going to NL with my wife to visit my family there and will probably get some recording (and hopefully at least three shows) set up over there.
Right now, I have on show...openning for a guy named.... John Stone (I think it is...) |

I will demure. Last time I linked to music here a bunch of people really got a hate on for me, and started to dump huge piles of sh*t on me and my music ever sinse then. They never articulated why, but my guess is that they felt it was grandstanding or somehow drawing more attention to myself than they considered seemly. These people have mainly moved on from here to the other two boards, but Dogbert is still around, I remember him clearly writing that the reason he hated me so much was because I linked to my music. |

And here he is right on cue.
Seeing as how in my new incarnation I'm trying not to be dragged down by others into the sandpit of internet crudeness I shall refrain from ripping you a new asshole, and invite you politely to explain to us carefully and in great detail exactly what it was that pissed you off about me linking to music. Come one, I've been civil, here's your chance to get it all out in the open. What's so funny about peace love and understanding? |

You dont know? Its the same sort of mentality that caused those idiots to attack Shawner. Why? Because he got published. because he got his head above the sewege that these morons live in. People like dogbert contribute nothing, create nothing, do nothing. Failures in life, they lash out at those who try and do something more. |
