Happy Independence day to my fellow yanks.. I'm getting nostaligic for boiled hot dogs, hoodsies, and fireworks on the beach at night.

Anyone celebrating in any way?

I sent an email to the US embassy last week to ask if there would be any 4th of July festivities. No answer. Sad

Oh well, looks like it'll be a quiet affair... I'm the only native teacher in my branch from the US anyway, so I'll have a private celebration, I guess.

My Merriam-Webster word-of-the-day in my email inbox today was 'Yankee'. That put a smile on my face.

this thread is quite a contrast to the Canada Day thread, where people where breaking out into song with the national anthem and whatnot.

I had a cookout with my Mom and Dad today, and later saw an aunt and uncle of mine. No need to see fireworks, as I've seen them many times...over the land...over the water...they're basically the same IMO.

D'oh.

Oddly, I myself was rather pleased that space shuttle didn't blow up. Rolling Eyes

Actually, I hate to say it but the real service of this thread is that it reminded me that yesterday was the 4th of July: it came and went without me even noticing. Crap, does that mean Mother's Day coming up soon now...?

Well, don't worry - this link shows the real spirit of the 4th of July (without the danger of heat shields peeling off...)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1762243072653576987
(remember to keep all comments positive... Cool )
On the same link you can download a video of the "Ghost Brothers' Krishna punk band...
